Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Does X1 need Europe or Japan this gen?

It need Europe. Mainland EU is pretty much ignoring the x1 close to last gen japan levels. There is no way it can be profitable by just focusing on North america and the UK.

Two biggest markets to best selling games. Plus, the places where publishers and devs get more money w/ DLCs, season passes and online subs. Screw the rest really.

It was already profitable, but don't know if it is still profitable.

Japan............

Even with those millions and millions of Red Ring re-sold consoles, they still lost to the ps3 in LTD sales.

They have never done any kind of respectable numbers in Japan, if they cant improve there, then they have no chance of winning this go round..............

What the hell kind of question is this? Microsoft will need as many territories as possible considering the XBO isn't necessarily doing incredible in even the US. They'll especially need Europe. (UK, to be even more precise.)

Japan is a special case where they don't have much hope, but they need to try to have a breakthrough there. Microsoft can't just throw Japan aside because they are upset that no one bought a 360. That's bad business.

Europe is the much bigger market. Also, any money they invest in the Japanese market will just be a waste IMO. The 360 had at least a half dozen JRPG exclusives early on (2 from Mistwalker, an awesome Tales game, 2 from Square-Enix, Eternal Sonata and Enchanted Arms) and that still barely moved consoles there.

That's going to work well, would love to be in on the investor call in on this one. So in this scenario Nintendo and Sony will slug it out for global dominance. MS retreats and aims for global insignificance!

Need them for what?
To be the top selling console globally? Yes.
To be profitable? No.

North America is big enough on its own to make a system a solid second place and be classified as a success.

Exactly.

Regardless tho XB1 will not be top selling console WW. So all it needs is to survive, and do well for Microsoft.

Doing well in the US and mildly well in Europe is enough. Which it'll do.

Europeans need to chill with the Xbox hate. Let's get together smoke one and... gotcha b*tches.

Japan is gonna be fairly irrelevant to them this generation.

Europe as a whole is still a major market, though. Its gonna need to sell well here and it will. I doubt its gonna match the 360, but it will do well enough to guarantee support, which is the important thing.
