A Mario Kart 8 bundle would make  Wii U sales skyrocket by 900000000000% and that's why Nintendo won't release a bundle like that one.

Cmon, Nintendo isn't that dumb! They surely realize by now that MK8 is likely their last chance to change the Wii U's trajectory. They'll have two more months time to think about this too since nothing else is going on with the Wii U until then.

Yes, they are.

They did a 3DS price cut to go along with SM3DL n MK7, so they can't be that dumb!

I can't see this happening. Yes, hardware sales are important, but not losing money is more important.

I agree that they likely won't do it, but while I wouldn't have contested this line of thinking at all a year ago, WiiU's sales are so grim presently that losing a bit more money on the hardware in favor of moving more software may be the lesser of two evils at this point.  I say this because even now at $299 the WiiU is still about one hundred smackers more than the traditional launch price for Ninty hardware.

I think we can all agree that at the very least a Mario Kart 8 bundle at $299 is practically a given.  The problem is that WiiU really needs a one-two punch to have a major impact.  If they were to introduce a MK bundle and drop their bundle prices to $249 upon its release in May, they wouldn't need another price drop for a long, long while and hopefully the increase in software sales that would result would help to offset the losses they'd incur.

They'd have to sell about 5 units of software to offset the loss they'd incur from the price drop alone, and they'd still need to cover what they're losing to begin with.  The current brass really needs to return to profitability quickly, and especially with the 3DS release slate lacking oomph, I don't see how they're going to turn a decent profit this year with such a price cut.

As for a one two punch, I think the date of Mario Kart Wii U is so close do the date of E3 for a reason.  This may be just wishful thinking, but hopefully Nintendo will have some big announcements at E3 to maintain momentum and buld on Mario Kart 8.  Of course, I've been thinking "oh they're planning something..." since the Wii U launched, so I could be wrong.

That's why they are dumb. 3DS had huge games with the price cut. Why not do the same with Wii U? Because they are Nintendo. Mario Kart alone won't do a 3DS scenario.

It would move consoles no doubt, but Nintendo is more worried about profit margins then they are about the console race.

True, but software is where most of the profits come from, but you can't sell games without an install base, hence why they really need to do this before Bayonetta 2, X, Hyrule Warriors, etc. Seeing as Nintendo has been selling the Wii Us at a loss and already did a price cut, they must understand this.

Not unless the production price for Wii U goes down significantly somehow before the end of May. Nintendo was losing money back when they were selling the console by itself for $300; dropping the price for the console by essentially $110 (assuming Mario Kart costs $60), would put them at an even worse position than they're in already.

Once again, the Wii U always comes bundled with a game now. MK8 will not increase the cost anymore than the already bundled games.

Were you not saying similar things 8 months ago?

Game bundle? Sure!
50$ price cut? Naah...

Agreed.  At least not at first.

But, you might see "unofficial" reductions sponsored through retailers.  That's whats happening now with the Mario bundle and TF bundles.

Rather Make it $180 and I might even give the damn thing a good look

At this time a bundle with SM3DW for 250 would be amazing and it would sell like hotcakes in my opinion.

I mean, yeah, but at this point they may aswell bundle it with MK8 since it's only 2 months away and with it being a fresh new game it'll have an even greater effect!
