Forums - Gaming - Steam Controller updated.. look at them buttons!

@dahuman

I have used owned every Nintendo home console except the GC and Wii (I have a Wii U) and have used every Nintendo controller quite a bit besides the Wii U Pro Controller. Dualshock has been my favorite controller every generation and has always had the best Dpad. I consider the N64 a better overall system than the PS1 though

LOL @ anyone who actually thinks X-Box started the "ABXY" button labeling.

Weird design for a speaker =o

Why would valve do speakers anyway ?!

I thought the same thing, ABXY has been around for ages

It might just be me but the controller layout seems pretty impractical, especially the ABXY buttons.

Honestly, what I want from a PC controller is MOAR BUTTONS. That's where controllers fail. In Fallout games, I have TEN keys mapped to weapons and it still feels constrained. In WoW ... well, let's just say half my keyboard was mapped to skills, which is why WoW can never work on home consoles.

Welcome to 1993 :D some games would include plastic sheets, that would cover the numeric pad with icons etc relating to the function they performed in the game.

I always thought this was a good idea for a controller, only with all the PS4 buttons then those extra at the bottom. Would be useful for games that use a lot of buttons. It looks alright to me to use, anyone ever use the Jaguar controller who can say what it was like to use?

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.

Next revision to replace the touch pads for analogue sticks and then they will have the perfect controller... oh wait

Wait why do the grips curve forwards, isnt that just gonna dig into your palms.

And a Dpad you cant use for fighting games.

This pad looks like its gonna tank hard, without some more changes.

It was awful sadly. But I agree the concept itself was good.

Have you seen those keyboards which have LCD display for each key? kind of work on a similar concept, but probably much more practical.

They have to buy a licence to use ABXY? ...from who?

well, I assumed Microsoft holds the license and collects royalties for it's use as afaik they came up with the design

I'm gonna slap you really hard... Like almost a punch.. Yes that hard

Right, and who wrote the OS and software for the Dreamcast?  Answer: Microsoft.

I am suprized they didn't make the buttons say: S T E A M, add a fith button.

But unfortunately, the Steam Controller touch pads aren't getting good reviews:

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
