And I was just beginning to enjoy my PS4, but some random guy on the internet has to tell me that it is doomed. Coupled with the fact that some launch game for it actually has less pixels than how many pixels people thought it had is depressing. I guess I have to destroy it now, since I would be too embarrassed to simply throw it out, as someone driving by may notice the doomed console in my garbage. I mean, we all know that the success and enjoyment of a product is directly proportional to sales in a specific country, or opinions on a forum.

Time to get an Ouya. Some internet ranking had that as the number one selling console...

I think this thread as a whole (according to the thread topic) is a little premature. Didn't the thing just release in Japan a few weeks ago? Just give it some time, let's say another month or two. Or even better, let's wait until some high profile games release in that region and then let's see how it performs afterwards.

That´s true. While WiiU was launched in a better, let´s say, "environment", we just can´t deny that PS4 numbers were not what Sony probably wanted. PS4 launch was lower than PS3 launch and this is a main concern, specially considering that PS3 was ( a lot) more expensive.

Japanese gamers really doesn´t seem to care much about home consoles anymore. PS4 will hardly repeat PS3 success.

I'm confident it can match the sales of the PS3. It's going to be the only console to play FFXV, KH3, MGSV, GTA6, RE7 etc. It's still going to get massive 3rd party games which will be the main system sellers in Japan. And the PS4 launch was much bigger than the PS3 launch.

I know that these numbers aren't what Sony wanted for Japan, but they are more or less to be expected as far as I'm concerned. I never believed it would do very well in Japan and I have said all along that no home console in the 8th gen will break the 10 million barrier.
PS4 launch was not lower than PS3 launch, where did you get that idea? It sold about 86k first week in Japan in November 2006, the PS4 sold around 310k in the last week of February 2014. Regardless of future sales; the PS4 launch was clearly a lot better than the PS3's.

I don't think the PS4 will necessarily outsell the PS3 in Japan either and your "Japanese gamers really doesn´t seem to care much about home consoles anymore" is more or less exactly what I wrote when I said "Japan is a dead end for all consoles today". What is it exactly you're disagreeing with, if anything?

People only bought the PS4 for Knack. This is proven by the fact that it stopped selling after they ran out of Knack bundles.

The PS4 is almost guaranteed to win the generation, but instead of being happy with that, many Sony fans are mad because they wildly predicted it would outsell the PS2, which won't happen, and heaven forbid, it's performing less than spectacular in one region while still doing great in Europe and the US.  Why can't these people just be happy when times are good?  Why do they take cheap shots at the competition and talk bogus talk about phantom "supply shortages" in Japan?

It's pathetic.  Sore winners are actually losers.
