Bigger population, much much bigger country and thus bigger logistical problems and due to higher piracy rates much less software sales and thus less profit.
Japan was more important to MS than Russia during the 360 days.

Or what about China ? Wouldn't that be completely illogical to try to get into the market when the population is soooooo big but the purchasing power only at the level of Russia ?

They saw it once. Why would they invest on a failure again?

xbone will probably get all the games that "matter". metal gear, final fantasy, kingdom hearts. but there will probably be a bunch of mid to low teir games that go ps4 exclusive just because the games will get 75% of their sales in japan were ps4 will have 99% market share.

I don't know why Microsoft even bothers with Japan. For more than a decade, they've proven that they couldn't care less with the Xbox brand.

They need to lower cost and match PS4 to compete in that market and Europe as well. MS needs to take the plunge in the fall and I'm sure they will.

Less support unless they match cost. Not that they will compete with PS4 but will most likely see more sales if they cut cost. Maybe not.

did you know, its extremely hard to buy third party 360 accessories in japan?
everywhere else theres tonnes, but in japan theyre a rarity - because third party manufacturers gave up.

Microsoft would probably be lucky to break even on their support from the last gen in Japan at this point.

I do not understand why Microsoft even bothers selling XBox in Japan region. The XBox 360 was barely profitable in Japan and sold below 1.6 million console systems in Japan over 8 years. The XBox before that sold less than 600k over 4 years in Japan.

I dont know why they would even bother. Its a handheld market and they can keep it.
