Forums - Nintendo - Batman Arkham Knight not coming to WiiU. Warner slowing down support?

Is this the last year we see core support from third parties

Yes 224 68.71%

No 100 30.67%

Total:324

WiiU is a platform of secondary importance to publishers and tertiary importance to developers.

I think we'll see WiiU support similar to how COD:Ghosts came to the platform. Development efforts focus primarily on other platforms while the publisher tries to line up an additional studio or small line of staff to port the game using pre-existing assets of the game. We hear nothing for months and assume it's dead then voila! It comes out. WiiU may miss out on titles of larger scope, but I think the fact a Watch Dogs port is still alive shows fairly complex games can be brought to the platform if they sell well enough.

I think 3rd parties understand that the WiiU represents a different market segment and a fair number of new players to a given franchise. To us, the sales seem pitiful. But business folks ears perk up at the prospect of raising sales another 1-10%.

Fun fact: ACIV is the 12th most downloaded all time on the WiiU eShop and the #1 most downloaded 3rd party game on the WiiU overall-- including indies. And it still sells full price there.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Yes !
To be fair, it isn´t coming to the PS360 either.

....so they ...at the very least.... have the "excuse" of not bothering with last gen consoles.

As in WiiU usually gets a port of the last gen version of cross gen games because of processing power.

Edit: I hope we get Lego City U 2 out of them before they......I was about to say "drop support completely" but that has already happened....so:

I hope we get LCU2 !

Where does this scalability buzzword come from? The X1 and PS4 are inline with mainstream PC gaming specs. How can a machine with a GB of shared RAM and 3 lowy clocked cores hope to compete? A directX11 GPU doesnt mean jack if it doesnt have the power to pull off those effects in realtime. I dont expect to see Unreal Engine 4 games running great on a Radeon 5550HD. Geez

there's so much innacurate/false information in your post.

What's innacurate and false? You keep pointing the finger at everyone who come up with a proper rebuttal without ever offering one in return.

I got banned for explaining to you what your behaviour in those arguments looks like. Can't you step your game up a little and bring something solid for a change?

You got banned for flaming and the onus for bringing "solid" information is from the naysayers. I don't have to bring information everyone knows to counter such obvious inaccurate/false information, i've already done it too much.

After canceling the DLC for Arkham Origins only on WiiU? Yeah they're pretty much done. There was at least some justification for porting PS3/360 games to WiiU since it was relatively cheap and easy, but PS4/XBO games would require major technical downgrades. It's just not worth the headache for maybe a few hundred thousand in sales. Especially when they get millions on other platforms.

there's no point in keep saying stuff you know isn't true.

Wow, what an excellent and informative rebuttal. Thank you for opening my eyes Zero. All this mountain of evidence you have shown has proved me wrong in every way possible. It's obvious that the WiiU is every bit as powerful as the PS4 and XBO, hell the WiiU is probably MORE powerful than those systems. Not even the best gaming PCs on the market can match what the WiiU is doing. The only reason 3rd parties don't develop for the WiiU is because they're a bunch of meanie heads. Poor Nintendo, they're always doing everything right yet people keep doubting them. I can't wait until Mario Kart 8 comes out, I'm expecting at least 50m in sales. I can't believe I was so foolish. How could I have ever doubted you?

Nobody is saying it's as powerful as the PS4. It's somewhere between the PS3 and Xbox One in terms of power. What we are saying is that it's possible for the Wii U to receive down-ports from the PS4 and One. See Project CARS as a prime example.

It's interesting that some people think power is the reason WiiU doesn't get games, and some think it's sales. (It's both more than likely).

I wonder if WiiU had the power, would it get the games? If it had the sales (hardware), would devs make the effort to make games?

The Wii suggests no on the latter, because the userbase is not interested in those kinds of games

No. I got banned for telling you exactly how you handle the heat around here.
If someone says something you think is false, you don't just go and accuse them of being liars. That's flaming. You have to explain why you think what they're saying is false by providing a counter argument. That's how debating is done.

Otherwise, why are you here? You're just calling everyone a liar without any grounds. That's not helping your case much.

Can't remember if I mentioned it in this thread but we're going to see just how the Wii U compares to the PS4 and One on a level playing field (where the Wii U SKU has had an equal amount of care and attention as the PS4 and One SKUs) when Project CARS is released. A game that incidentally the PS3 and 360 weren't powerful enough to do the game justice.

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised.

You'd better be right, don't switch goal posts if not.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

You must be a joke account or there's just  something very wrong with you. Point out the false information please

It was quite clear. Wii U only lost support since launch and it's still losing support (of anything non-indie)

Japanese third parties, all save for SEGA are OUT completely.

West has only Ubisoft (soon to be gone) and Activision, both of them partially.

By this time next year, Wii U will have nothing more than indie games, or the yearly casual multiplats / Movie cash ins

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Would a racing game be the best benchmark for comparisons anyway?  I am a layman when it comes to such things so correct me if I am (most likely) wrong, but racing games don't seem to be that graphically demanding.  Sure the car models need to be impressive, but even then they are largely static with the vast majority of moving parts under the framework, and while driving the evironment would naturally be somewhat blurred to add to the illusion of speed so racing sims shouldn't be too asset heavy outside of whatever weather conditions that may be available.

To me the test would lie more in games with a more open world to explore, such as the case, presumably, with Arkham Knight.  Would the U be capable of generating the map without constant load times?
