Forums - Gaming - Bloomberg: Microsoft Hopes Titanfall's Robots Can Save the Xbox One

Sales of Microsoft’s (MSFT) new game console, the Xbox One, started strong with some 3 million sold around the world from its Nov. 22 launch to the new year. Since then, though, the consoles have piled up on store shelves. Researcher NPD Group estimates that Sony’s (SNE) PlayStation 4, introduced on Nov. 15, outsold the Xbox One in January by at least a 2-to-1 margin in the U.S. And on March 4, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold 6 million systems and 13.7 million games, including 2.1 million copies of Killzone: Shadow Fall, an exclusive to the PlayStation. Console makers that log big monthly sales typically report them; Microsoft hasn’t so far in 2014.

Microsoft is betting it can sell more Xbox Ones on the strength of an online multiplayer game called Titanfall, which will be released only for its consoles on March 11. “It’s hard to overstate the importance of Titanfall to the Xbox One release this year,” says Yusuf Mehdi, chief marketing and strategy officer for Microsoft’s devices and studios. “For us, it’s a game changer. It’s a system seller.”

Titanfall's robots?

Better watch out for a potential assault on Sony's main production factory.

This absolutely ridiculous to be putting this much faith in one game, Titanfall will inded be a boon to the XB1 but it won't suddenly send the XB1 soaring pass the Wii u and PS4(as it sits in third among them) or atleast match the PS4 in weely numbers....it will take agressive marketing and a steady flow of titlesto become a force to be reckoned with.

TitanFall was orginally called Half-Life 3, but Gaben decided that he didn't want people to know that his undercover dev studio was actually called Respawn, or that it existed.

Idk, is it time actually to declare that X1 needs saving? Sure its lagging behind the wiiU but the wiiU had a year head start! Sure its lagging behind the ps4 but the ps4 costs $100 less and is more powerful. TitanFall will move sales for sure and the sales aren't too high but I don't think its time to say that the X1 needs saving just yet.

I agree, the system selling capacity expectations of Titanfall are absurd and even illogical at times. Just look at the Wii U or even the Ps3 in NA last gen. One hyped up game isn't enough. It'll boost sales for a week or two but that it. People seriously need to get back down to reality, it's starting to sound more and more like the Wii U (wait for Mario, Wait for DK etc)

They'll save it al right...for a few weeks.

DOOMED?

But like there is a pc and 360 version of this too, article kinda makes it sound lke its just on the X1.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive
