Xenogears is infinitely better than FF VII, is this a serious question?

It's not even just better than FF VII, it's one of the greatest science fiction and fantasy stories ever told in any medium.

That's not even considering the fact that FF VII is one of the most overrated games of all time.  For us old school Final Fantasy fans, eg 1-6, who typically universally consider 4 the best, 7 was a HUGE disapointment coming from 6, and marks when the series started going downhill fast with it's flashy mainstream appeal and lack of soul.

It's no coincidence that all the core Square FF team left Square after 6, the exact same time FF started falling apart at the seams.  

I didn't really like FF VII. Xenogears on the other hand is a fantastic game.

I'm amazed they haven't been locked yet in all honesty.

Both feel very dated, but Xenogears wins..... Because FFVII had Mukki... Yikes!

Unfair question, Xenogears was never released in the EU so I couldn't play that. FFVII wins by default.

Xenogears had a fantastic story with absolutely dreadful pacing.

As a "game", IMO it was incredibly slow and overall meh. The story carried it through and through and through.

Xenogears could've been great, but it ended up as an overly pretentious and unfinished game with terrible pacing. I still enjoyed it, but it generally left me disappointed because of all the wasted potential.

The original script for Final Fantasy 7, changed for being too dark. Made by a team that later founded Monlith Soft and the first game in the xeno-series.
