I like both titles, but i'll award VII as being better.

So FFVII for the win base on the poll results.

I enjoyed both, would probably say xenogears is my favorite of the whole xeno-prefix games (which actually isn't saying much coming from me, but still). However, I would have to go with ffvii. Xenogears story starts strong but it turns into unmitigated garbage in the last third of the game or so, same thing happened with Xenoblade.

Two of the greatest RPGs of all time. Xenogears was more robust and interesting though, so I have to put it there.

as much as i like ff7 my vote still goes for xenogears because the amount of storycompexity and depht that went into that one game is just way above anything else.

Xenogears

Xenogears and FF7 are two of the best games ever made.

The story of Xenogears is unsurpassed. FF7 has a great story, but I know no story in any game that comes close to Xenogears.

The materia system is far superior to the Xenogears battle systems though.
Materia allows infinite customization and creation of job classes and countless hybrid job classes.

I go for FF7 overall.

Final Fantasy VII and Xenogears were both great rpgs and great games. They both had a good and engadging story and great mechanics. However, Final Fantasy VII was the more complete and polished game. I'm sorry to say, but everyone who said that Xenogears is better are WRONG and that is not an oppinion.

But before you people get your panties all tied up in a knot, its not that VII is massively better, its because Square fracked up on the sceond part of Xenogears. They ran out of time and moneyz and hence made the second disc awful. The difference between the first and second part of Xenogears is night and day. What should have been an epic experienced ended in massive disapointment. Sure, they wrapped up the story line but saddly, the epicness of the first part on the first disc was completely destroyed by the lameness of the second disc.

With that said, FFVII is the better game due to Xenogear's budget and time running out.
