Forums - Sales Discussion - Forbes "Nintendo Is Beating Microsoft In Video Game Hardware Sales" (Uses VGChartz # :D)

Doesn't matter that it's only a blog. If Forbes puts their name on it then it tacitly endorses the content. There isn't even a disclaimer at the bottom of the post. This sort of amateur hour industry analysis diminishes the Forbes brand.

Each console has to be put into it's proper context. Wii U is doing terribly, and as Nintendo handhelds go 3DS is underperforming. Nintendo can, and probably should, push through this bad patch in the hardware game. But they should learn a lesson here and their next home console should do much more than merely cater to the 20 million or so strong core Nintendo fanbase. Nintendo actually has to grab some of that market to which only POS and XB seem to be appealing right now if it wants long term and multi-generational sustainability. it doesn't take long to burn through $8 billion .

But Nintendo may be running out of time, the writing is on the wall for gaming consoles. The age of the streaming device is fast approaching. Onlive was proof of concept, and it worked pretty well. PS Now is one of the big boys getting into it with a good chance of success. And Valve will be there too. Before long everyone is going to make a cheap box that can stream gaming content. Nintendo, will simply be another game developer, as will Sony, though no doubt Sony would still make streaming hardware as they already do.

So they combined 8th gen and 7th gen consoles...then threw a handheld in for a crutch? Why isn't this just called 3DS>Xbox?

Funny thing is that isn't even the case right now.

3DS is doing 25k~ a week in the US not 40k. Europe is likely similar, and Japan is dropping below 30k.

After Titanfall and release in more countries XB1 should be beating every Nintendo system.

How do you know what 3DS numbers are? The only solid numbers are the Japan ones, the others you are purely guessing?

NPD.

Admittedly, the Forbes staff have been in Nintendo's corner. Their gaming editor is a huge Wii U fan.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

It's a flame baited thread no doubt, but I do seriously believe that the Xbone is going to have a tough time of things. Yes I know Titanfall looks impressive, but that is only one game. Will it sell even half of what the PS4 sells this year?

People hanging their hat on Titfall are ignorant for two reasons. The first one is the idea that one game can put a console on top. False. Halo was bigger than Titanfall will ever be, and the original Xbox finished 130 million consoles behind the PS2. So that's proof one really huge FPS doesn't matter at all. And the second reason why they're ignorant is Titanfall isn't even exclusive lol. So not only is it not nearly as hyped and big as Halo was when it first came out, it's not even exlcusive like Halo was. lol

It'll be a big game and it'll be a great FPS (I'm getting it for 360), but it won't save the Xbone.

Without Halo CE/Halo 2 on the original Xbox the Xbox would have sold way less.  You look way to simple to it, having a few Indie hits on Xbla increased people buying the system, increased the number of devs making a game on Xbla and porting their game over and that again increased the numbers of people buying the system and devs making games for XBLA...

If Titanfall is succesfull in sales and attracting some customers it will affect the sales for years;..

How so? Xb 1 is already selling in all the markets that make up the vast majority of a console's sales. On a long term basis adding another 30 countries will probably lift Xb one weekly sales by about 10-15% above what they are currently. And TF will only have a short term effect. If you'd said after a $100 price cut the claim might be more credible. At least this guy is using actual sales data (albeit estimates with a sizeable MoE) not conjecture about what things will be like in a week's time and beyond.

Besides even if the numbers you're suggesting for 3DS are true, 25+25+30 > 57. So it is still the case right now.

That's not a disclaimer, at least not in any sense that dissociates the Forbes brand from what this guy is writing. In fact it actually associates the Forbes brand with what this guy is writing, by saying "The author is a Forbes contributor".

A proper disclaimer would be "the author is not a Forbes contributor, he merely rents space on this blog site and he is in no way associated with the Forbes company or any of its publications."

If New Scientist hosted a blog site and allowed a creationist to write a creationist blog, that would be New Scientist associating itself with creationist propaganda, regardless of the fact that none of that stuff would ever get published as articles in the New Scientist magazine.

Japan will drop more (unless they intervene) I can't quite believe how much it has dropped already.

XB1 can easily sustain 80k+ a week after Titanfall + more markets.

The guy can write what he wants but people should really stop to open a new "Forbes says" thread every few days when they mean a blogger posting something on Forbes. There are probably many other sites who allow some bloggers to write something and nobody here uses these posts to say that the site claims it.

But to talk about the article, it's almost as sarcastic (I hope that isn't a serious article) as saying that Mercedes is selling more vehicles as Ducati.

It's kind of strange.. that a 1 year old "dommed and dead" console almost sells the same as a brand new.. "mayby not the leader, but still pretty decent" console..

It dosent make sense..

Hey, look! Someone on the Internet doing what they should be doing when referencing VGC numbers.

Im more impressed that they actually explained VGC estimates.
