The price difference between the 360 and PS3 was probably more significant than most believe. It really didn't help the PS3's case that virtually all early multiplatform games performed better on the cheaper console.
And so it's interesting that we have a complete 180 in the 8th gen with the XB1 being overpriced relative to the initial catalog/feature set and the PS4 being significantly cheaper while performing better for every multiplatform game.
It could lead to the XB1 being marginalized, but I just don't see MS letting the XB brand die like this, even if they have to resort to more drastic measures (price matching) to appear directly competitive.
But for the sake of the OP, this is really about the status of the Wii U, which has over 16 months on the market including 2 holiday seasons and a second year catalog, relative to the XB1 which has 4 months on the market and virtually nothing but launch titles.
Nobody's making any arguments for why the XB1 is going to turn everything around and outsell the PS4, barring crazy/joke/delusional predictions, but it won't take much for the XB1 to outsell the Wii U.
