Shadow1980 said: I think Titanfall will be the rough equivalent of the original Gears of War: the first big post-launch shooter and first big post-launch exclusive. The main difference is that Titanfall launches this month while Gears came out in a November. Also, the XBO has a smaller install base than the 360 did when Gears launched (U.S. sales are about 2.23M so far for the XBO, while the 360 had sold about 2.9M when Gears launched. According to VGC, Gears sold 516k its first sales week. Gears also sold just shy of 1.8 million copies in 2006, and that was just from 8 weeks of sales. I think Titanfall will do well — I think it can easily clear 500k its first week and maybe even hit 750k, and I think 2-2.5 million is likely for 2014 since it has 9-½ months instead of 2 months to rack up sales this year — but I doubt it will do anything to "save" the XBO. Nearly all system-sellers don't have any sort of lasting impact on hardware sales. Rather, the sales boost lasts a week or two at most. Some really big ones might boost sales for several weeks. However, no game has ever caused an increase in hardware sales lasting months. It just never happens. Titanfall may boost the XBO to beat the PS4 for March in NA (not in Europe, though), but by April the XBO will likely be back at its previous baseline or close to it. The only things that cause permanent increases to long-term baseline sales are price cuts. Individual software titles only help in the very short-term. |
titanfall is doing something Gears didnt do, its also on another console the 360, see with Gears you had to either have a good pc or a 360 so people mostly went with a 360, with TF you can have 360 X1 and pc i dont see people with a 360 buying a X1 for TF. sure some will those who want a X1 and were waiting but i dont see it being a huge system seller or having huge sales past the 1st week. i predict more 70% of its lifetime sales come in the first week the other 30% will come over the rest of its life.
