Forums - Gaming - PS4 fast approaching a dangerously 70% marketshare for 2014!

The OP of this thread, and many other similar threads that have been popping up Ra Ra-ing the PS4's current sales, continue to be operating under the notion that PS4 will continue to sell 100k a month indefinitely. It will not. In fact, odds are, except for an obviously fall/holiday boost, sales will start slowing down as we approach summer. And they will certainly have slowed a bit by 2015. I do not forsee a realistic scenario in which PS4 sells like mad longterm, giving them a 70%+ market share. Not with some of the biggest titles for Wii U and XB1 coming this year.

I just don't see it.

3DS Has 75% so what's the deal?

Home console wise its amazing.

3DS having 75% is a bit sad compared to the GBC and GBA which had 100%!!!!!

Please do tell what actual competition GBC or GBA had during their lifespans? Actual, legitimate competition that would take even a sliver of the marketplace?

They didn't. So of course they had 100%. Having 75% now, considering the so-called "rise of mobile phone gaming", is pretty damn impressive.

Nothing "dangerous" about that.

I agree :)      it's dangerous for the others...

Here's the thing though, apparently Cerny said the PS4 will drop in price relatively fast due to its COTS parts. Do you think a $299 PS4 will be more damaging against a $399 XBO? Or a $399 PS4 against a $499 XBO? I tend to think the former will do more damage than the latter. Of course, if MS wants to eat the costs and sell for a big loss, then they can price match Sony. Or they can drop kinect, but I honestly don't see that happening like some other folks can.

Microsoft is already making profit at $499, they can compete easily with PS4 dropping Kinect, and still make profit. Although I still think Sony would win by a huge margen no matter what, the Playstation brand is a lot more stronger.

Source for them making a profit?

Maybe they profit if everyone buys a game, but just at $499 I really doubt Microsoft is coming in black.

I hope the marketshare climbs even higher.

Its good for business. It does my head in that resources get waisted on Multiplats. How redundant is it for the consumer for devs to create the same game over and over again because of the userbase being split across multiple platforms.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Are not they making profit for every Xbox One sold? Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I remember.

What u talking about. We are in march, you guys first said: "bbbbuut wait after the holiday period! ps4 will bomb like wiiu!" and now it is "wait until the summer! ps4 sales will slow down finally!". You guys keep moving goal posts and PS4 kept on disappointing you, odds are, PS4 will keep on disappointing you in the future. There is still not enough supply to meet the demand.

Sales will slow in 2015? The hell? The PS4 will be even more popular next year. Those big titles you say, what are those? Wii U gets sequels to games that sold 30m on Wii but they all bomb like NSMBU, Wii Fit, Wii Party, Donkey Kong, do you really think MK8 can single handedly change the fate of the console? No it wont. Xbone will not get Halo 5 this year, it probably will get Halo 2 Anniversary instead. Halo isnt as big as it used to be, the daily MP population charts show very little activity left in Halo 4.

@Basil Zero

Game Gear was long since functionally dead by the time that Game Boy Color came out in late 1998.

The Wonder Swan was a Japan only system, and even just for that Japan only market, it paled in comparison to GBC or GBA sales.

My point was, obviously, that the DS and 3DS have had actual competition in the portable market due to the PSP and Vita, competition that they honestly didn't have since the original GB vs. the Game Gear.

@Turkish

I gather from you repeatedly using the term "you people", that you're infering I'm a "Nintendo Fanboy". If so, you can check that shit at the door, because I am not an anything "Fanboy". I am indeed a Nintendo fan more than any other console, but I also own a PS2 and PS3, and game on PC as well. Not that I need to prove myself to you or anyone else, but the fact stands.

So kindly don't include me in your "you people" statements. I'm not moving any goal posts, and I never said it was going to bomb after the holidays. What I did say, and have said all along, is that it is NOT going to keep selling 100k a month indefinitely. In fact that action won't even last as long as you think.

But whatever. You seem to have your own particular viewpoint, obviously Sony slanted. So have fun with that. Cheers.

Sales certainly will have slowed by the second year?

I don't think sales predictions are your strong suit bud.
