The front page is showing 200k, so I wouldn't call that a bomb, especially considering it'll probably have legs. Obviously it wont do Returns numbers, but that's obviously because the Wii U isn't doing Wii numbers. The same is going to be the case with every game, be it Mario, Zelda, Kirby, etc. This we all know! So the only real bad news here is that Tropical Freeze had like no impact on hardware sales, but even that was to be expected already after SM3DW + other games + Price cut + new bundles + advertising + holidays had zero long term effects. If all that did nothing, then there's no reason to believe anything will, atleast nothing from the usual console formula (release games, price cuts, remodels, etc.).

Also there's plenty of positive stuff to talk about, like you know, the actual games themselves!

I'll do when they release MK, SSB and Zelda.

I honestly think the Wii U userbase is already burnt out on platformers. Look at what released before it - New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U and Super Mario 3D World. Not only are these games readily available on the platform, but NSMB and NSL are both being bundled with the console already.

Add in that the Wii U userbase is only a shadow of what the Wii (and 3DS) userbase was when it got a DK game.

All together, you get a game that was never really guaranteed to sell all that well.

Something of note, for the people saying that a Metroid game would have done worse - Look at the Pikmin 3 numbers. Pikmin as a franchise has never really been big. Its far smaller than Donkey Kong, thats for sure. Despite this, Pikmin opened up to a combined ~225k worldwide. Guess what Donkey Kong opened to...

A combined ~196k

Thats right. Pikmin 3 actually had a larger Week 1 than Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on a worldwide basis.

196k is DK's one day sales. Game dropped 21 worldwide with the exception of Japan, 13th. Combined with Last week's Japan sales, the game is near 250k.

So DK had a bigger week 1 than Pikmin.

Nope.

108k in the US
50k in Europe
38k in Japan

Compared to Pikmin...

103k in the US
28k in Europe
95k in Japan

I really wonder what the strategy was behind the scenes.  Back in 2011 what did they expect the first couple years of Wii U software to be.  Was it actually their plan to release NSMB2 a few months before NSMBU?  Was it their plan to have basically all their biggest games for the first year and a half to be platformers?  Then of course there are the droughts.  Just imagine if they had kept Pikmin 3 on the Wii and hadn't delayed DK.  I'd be surprised if Wind Waker HD was in their initial plans as well considering the short development time, but late release.

it's not a bomb bro, it sold like 130k + EU in a crashing video game market

You say that, but just a few months ago GTAV made like 1 billion in like a couple of days. That is gi-fucking-normous.

Nintendo hates moving forward, its the weirdest thing. I can't think of a single, memorable new IP that they have comed up with.

Pikmin 3 released on a Saturday, 7 days of sales. (A sunday in the US, 6 days of sales)

DK released on a Friday. 1 day of sales.

I think you need to stop checking software sales and stuff like that. I've only see you make "doom" or "dissapointment" threads...
OP: Of course it's Nintendo's fault! There's no other to blame. They made the Wii U the most anticonsumer hardware I've ever seen.

There has not been anything to celebrate. Nothing.

You cannot expect positive threads when there's nothing positive.

If the next console gave us games with outstanding effects graphics and gameplay and it sell like no other console I'll be the first to celebrate. But now, you cannot ask anyone to be happy with the worst performance of a mainstream console ever to Nintendo.

Nor do we need persistent doom threads, either. What fruitful discussion is to be had here?

Because i know your concern is honest and you aren't just trolling is the only reason i haven't started cracking down on your threads, but i'm beginning to re-evaluate that position.

They had to be thinking third party was going to pick up the slack, and the picture would look a lot different today in terms of release schedule if they were getting at least a majority of PS360 multiplats still.

Would third parties not be gimping those games to prevent them from selling is another matter.

Well okay then, although there are plenty of games out now, and you can still talk about upcoming ones.
