When I decide to go after trophies, or achievements to collect I will use a guide for the boring stuff. Though I tend to just play more games than most people by far so I have a lot of both achievements and trophies just by enjoying a great diversity of games. A lot more games than many trophy hunters with the same amount of achievements.

On here, I am an amateur at best that uses guides because I am a very impatient gamer. It makes everything more fun.

This is a great topic, i was for a shot time a trophy addict. I can relate to the people here saying that ocd takes over from looking at trophies before playing to grinding 30+ hours for a single trophy.

But sometime last year i completly burnt out and stopped gaming on ps3 for a few months switched over to pc and stuck to indy games then as the next gen was getting closer i started getting exited for the next gen but i decide i would change a few things.

First, media ban on games i am interested in, i simply stay away from reddit and all gaming sites when a game is coming out example Infamous I have only seen the e3 demo thats it, have not read anything else about it, this keeps thr hype out of the equation.

Second, i do not look a trophies until i finish the game.

Third , did i enjoy the game? No, then. Move on period. Having a huge backlog while working full time makes gaming time somewhat precious dont waste in on worthless prestige that no one cares that you achived.

when I complete the game once

I don't usually use a guide. What I do, if it's a new series for me or something, I'll look at the trophy list and if it's all hidden I'll look up why it's hidden instead of looking just incase they're spoilers. I always complete the game once first. But I'm a collector, I naturally have the tendency to try do everything. If I know the series good enough I won't even look at the trophies. Perfect example is Ratchet and Clank ACiT I platinum'd it without looking at the trophy list once (not even on PS3), it's not that it's easy. But it's because I know what to expect cause it's one of my fav series. I look at the trophy list on games like Sonic only on PlayStation but I don't look online for guides. I'll only look up guides in games that actually need it. I believe some trophies are just impossible otherwise tho.

Sometimes. Once I began a game with a guide that explained how to get all the achievements in 1 playthrough, and it completely ruined all the fun.

what game was it?

Bio shock infinite

i would imagine getting all of them in 1999 mode wouldn't be fun on it's own, plus with the various missable colectibles the guide would spell most of it out for you. I only started recently on the ps3. checked to see what the list was but since I don't want so many spoilers I am just playing it for fun this time and will get the rest through chapter select and the next play through.

Yeah. I was watching the guide getting every collectable whilst playing in 1999 mode and just couldn't enjoy it. And then I got stuck and kept dying so I gave up. I'm going to retry playing it soon but not on 1999 mode.
