Trophy and Achievement hunters, When do you look at a guide?

i would imagine getting all of them in 1999 mode wouldn't be fun on it's own, plus with the various missable colectibles the guide would spell most of it out for you. I only started recently on the ps3. checked to see what the list was but since I don't want so many spoilers I am just playing it for fun this time and will get the rest through chapter select and the next play through.
