11 stores to remain open in United States

Only a day after confirming layoffs at Santa Monica Studio, Sony has now announced layoffs and store closures for its chain of U.S. retail locations. The company issued a press release on Wednesday, stating approximately 1,000 employees are affected by the cuts.

"While these moves were extremely tough, they were absolutely necessary to position us in the best possible place for future growth," said Sony Electronics president Mike Fasulo.

All told, Sony will shutter twenty Sony Stores in the United States. Affected locations span the country, while the 11 Sony Stores to remain open are in California, New York, Florida, and Texas. Sony had previously announced a retail "expansion" last April.

Layoffs always suck, but seriously who the hell needs a Sony store? Why do certain electronic companies need personal stores anyway?

They just closed one in my town, was always empty so no surprise.

Bragging rights. They're meaningless unless you're Apple perhaps.

I wander how many stores MS has over the world. I didn't knew Sony only had so few to begin with.

never even knew sony had there own stores. lol

It's not like they have a chain. It's just strategically placed stores where they can better expose all of their hard/software.

It's only viable when the Balance Sheet is healthy though.

Those Sony stores are over priced, they never have deals! I can pick up a cheaper Sony TV next door to the Sony store lol

I always thought the same..arrogance is the only answer I can come up with.

I wish they had one in my state so I could check their Home Theater set ups.
