Hopefully they give up making console hardware and only make software. The fact the Wii U is doing so bad makes me at peace.

The world would be a better place if Mario and other Nintendo games were on PS, XB, and PC. This is glorious.

To peace, harmony, and love with Nintendo being third party. <3

Not to rain on your parade, but ... if NIntendo gives up on hardware they will probably go to mobile games. If Mario and Zelda release on Android and iPhone, that may well be the final nail in the coffin of console-gaming.

I really don't. Nintendo tried to capitalize on yet another underpowered console where they can make as much money as possible for as little cost. Development costs and production costs. It just so happens that their greed caught up to them and they suffered because of it. They didn't catch the casual market and only the Nintendo fans will support them without third party support. With third parties dropping support because Nintendo fans don't support third parties, it's not going to draw as many non Nintendo fans.

I'll get a Wii U because I skipped the Wii and there are some good Wii U games, but Nintendo's greed got the better of them.  They did this to themselves.

I agree that they did this to themselves but I don't think it was out of greed, just a lack of vision. The Wii was not an attempt to cash in on cheap hardware, it was Nintendo's vision of the future of video games, it worked  splendidly until they foolishly dropped support for the console while they worked on the successor.

With the Wii U, they thought they had once again found something that would change how games are played but this time their vision wasn't shared by well anyone. Even their own games barely use the tablet controller but now they're stuck with it.

The funny thing is that if Nintendo really had been greedy, they could have just went with a super powered Wii. The money saved by not having the tablet controller could have been invested in getting stronger hardware all around.

I can fully agree with this, thank you.

Yeah but they pretty much knew that the tablet wasn't going to change how games were played.  It's essentially what the bottom screen on the DS and 3DS are.  I'm assuming they thought that since the DS did so well and tables are a big thing, that they'll get the amount of sales the Wii got with a new gimmick.

Thats why Wii U is failing, they didnt go down the table route. :)

They should have went for chairs.  Untapped market there.  Yeah, typo.

Mr T couldnt even pity this.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.

Nintendo would push out and eliminate both third parties and first party content. For example, Sony loses money on hardware but profits (if that) from software. Imagine how much worse their software would sell if Nintendo was competing. How would Jax sell if Mario were beside him?

Also, Nintendo is too strong a factor for the entire industry. Imagine if tomorrow Nintendo dropped WiiU and 3DS and went Microsoft only. Believe me, Sony would suffocate. The exact opposite could happen to MS if Sony got them.

Eh, maybe. I mean I like the games Nintendo puts out for the platform, but I do not like the console itself (the online infrastructure and UI especially) or how Nintendo is currently managing it.

The Wii U is a lazy cash-in attempt on the Wii's success. So, no absolutely 0 pity. I'm quite happy it's doing poorly actually.

Don't need Nintendo as a third wheel in the hardware making industry. I have a vision of a unitary console system that can play all games; no more barriers to exclusivity. Kind of like a blu-ray player, it's made by many companies but they all play the same games.

And honestly? Nintendo games don't need to be exclusive to Nintendo hardware. That era is long gone.

You do know that wii-u was the first console Nintendo has sold at a loss..

Meaning NO.. Wii-u was absolutly not a "cash-in attempt" offcourse they in it for the money.. but they believed to earn on games.. meaning that they had a very good iddea :)

But some people talks like it's all over and the wii-u has no change in hell..  Dont ever underestimate Nintendo.. there is a lot of things they can do still..

Just to give you some "nightmares" The wii-u is a 100% Wireless VR unit.. All Nintendo has to do at e3, is to show a Headdisplay for wii-u, and Zelda, MK8 and Cod running that.. controlled by headmowment.. And there U have it.. :)

They had no idea how powerful the PS4 and Xbox One would have been and they could have attempted to make a more powerful Wii but how much would that have cost per console a year ago?  Something as powerful as the Xbox One for $499 in winter 2012.  They decided to  go with the cheaper console with the lower price point, $299 - $349 and a gimmick to try and sell it instead of trying to compete for power.

The system is selling at a loss, and the same tablet you're saying that they "knew" wasn't going to make up for a lack of horsepower is to blame. If your statement that they're trying to cheap out is correct, then they're doing an awful job of it...

I am playing Donkey Kong Tropical freeze and my PS4 is collecting dust.

Do you even understand what you are saying? How is WiiU "little cost"?  Nintendo is losing money with every sold WiiU and  Sony allegedly makes proft with every sold Ps4 also charges for online. So who is greedy here?
(dont fool yourself in believeing sony NEEDS to have a fee to offer multiplayer because its SO EXPENSIVE :(
Noone ever forced them to offer official servers for everyone. What about friends joining friends on player hosted servers like on PC?  And official servers just for people giving a f* about tournaments etc? They even said one of their biggest mistakes last gen was not having an online fee...
Third party and Sony/MS want to have control over the players and shutdown a games online functionality when needed so they can force people to buy the next installment. They use this as an excuse for a "needed" fee)

Consumers are the reason why Nintendo decided to go Wii and WiiU.
N64 and GC were super powerful. NOONE bought them.  PS1 and PS2 were crapp hardware sold terrific.
DS was crappy hardware sold better than the Gameboy or GBA. Even tho Nintendo had to fight the PSP during that time and all of that with a "new" nintendo product that did not have the famous GAMEBOY logo anyhwere on its case.

Wii was crappy hardware = best selling Nintendo home console ever

Trying to go the Wii route was more than understandable. The only HUGE mistake nintendo made was thinking a well-known name (Wii) will guarantee good sales. They totally ignored the DS outselling the GB family while not being part of the GB family. And labeling every shit Wii something so people still dont understand that Wii U is a new console (alot of PS360 owners dont know and even japanese people dont know)  the name is a disaster.
