well to be fair all the doom and gloom wen 3ds first arrive and the waiting for vita kills your statement. Just saying

That said its not fair that 3DS+Vita are doing supposedly bad cuz of its predecessor! 

The 3DS sold like shit when it first launched. It started selling well after it had a price cut and some bigger games.  Both are down from their predecessor, and people expected Nintendo to at least match or top the DS. This is why 3DS is held to a higher standard because much more is expected of it (from its precedessor and how well it sold the past few years) where the expectation for Vita sales is death and doom. Anything better than dead is surprising.

Would love to see a sane person that predicted Vita > 3DS in sales.

This all depends on Sony. I think it would be best if they stayed in the market for 2 gens with the Vita. Well... more like 1.5 but you get what i mean. There really is no point in putting out a new system until the Vita becomes a resounding sucess at least in Japan.

 

I don't believe a console can stay more than one gen in the market. There is the fresh new thing effect on a new console that simply will make people want it instead of the old device. Nintendo tried to stay more time with the NES in the market against the Genesis, using their 90% market share, but they actually had to release SNES before Sega could steal all their market share (and in the end, they still lost their 90% share and got only 55-60%).

If Vita doesn't become a sucess, the best thing to do is release a new console and fix the mistakes of its predecessor. If they release one, of course.

I think its a bit different. The power difference on the graphics output between the NES and Genesis/Mega Drive was quite clear.

I dont forsee a big diference between the next Nintendo portable and the Vita. I would compare it to the difference between an Xbox1 and a PS4 to put it into perspective. I dont think there would be a problem to get the hottest new thing because the hottest might not sell more than the current. Especially if the current isnt a sucess. You will lose consumer trust.

Might aswell stick to the Vita and support it better than they have so far, once the PS4 is in a one-way track to domination. It already is, but you know what i mean. Sony can start focusing back on the Vita after 1 to 2 years after some more of those exclusives launch.

I'm hoping he takes notice of this part, considering there were quite a few insane "predictions" out there.

I most certainly hope not. It's clear to me that they don't know what they are doing when it comes to handhelds and certainly can't spare enough staff to create a regular release of titles.

I don't take the 3DS or the Vita not being as successful as their previous iterations as proof of a collapsing handheld market. I believe they have failed in that regard because they don't have enough differentiating software experiences in addition to regular enough releases. Both of those issues can be solved. I just say no cause I don't see Sony actually buckling down and doing what needs to be done for that.

Even with the standard that Nintendo's Handhelds sell better than Sony's, both numbers are quite horrid. PSP actually sold really well, to my memory.

but here is the thing i dont understand. It hasn't gotten a price cut in 2 years and 7 months + it got1 new model (2012 summer), and it sold 15mil in almost 3 years. Now its declined YoY but hasn't done extraordinary already? you cant get much more better than that.

If it does lets say 2.5mil this year in japan, many people will post all this negativity about its doing terrible/horrid numbers which in why i look at total sales and dont understand!

Sometimes people's expectations are so high its complete non sense. Looking at Wii/DS/PSP sales and alot of people expect the next installments to do the same/better when they were top peak of the gaming industry. PSP/DS especially sold fantastic, it was obvious 3DS/PSPwoould never sell close to them.

If 3DS stop selling today its still an amazing feat for it to sell 15mil. Also vita is expecte to be up YoY. Some people compare YoY sales to make the vita look good/ 3DS to look bad which is just silly. Its the same with WiiU wen it goes up YoY trying to compare to make it look good.

i kno wat you mean but its already sold 15mil, your talking about sales now, in which i think its non sense. 3DS has already sold alot to the consumers, why do yo expect it to sell almost the same as it previously does? How many more gamers are suppose to buy the system? There is also the fact that thier is still a price cut to be made and maybe 1 more model

Did you read what I posted? I'm talking about the sales in 2011 when it was really bad. It's doing pretty well now, although not up to snuff with last year.
