Forums - Gaming - Dispelling the myth: Vita haz no gaemz (24+ beg to differ) [challenging the boundaries of what counts as a "game"!]

However, you missed the rule. If a game is available on any other system, it is not a game for that system. ;)

But I'm afraid you're missing XBLA/PSN and indies, which elevate the amount of games to +50

Ooops my mistake XD

But digital only games don't count as games either, didn't you get the memo?

I have more games for Vita than for 3DS. And I spent less money to achieve that. Way less. Like, maybe half. Thanks PS Plus!

Yeah, after only 2 years I already have more games available to play on my Vita than on any handheld device before (GBC, GBA, DS, PSP, 3DS).

Thanks PS Plus and PSN sales!

@Mike ROX ---> You have unlocked a plantinum trophy! :P And yet that is still far from all the games available. But from a handheld perspective, no other console comes close. --> Thats no true to Vita as 3DS or even DS has the most amount lol :)

The scariest thing is, it turns out the PS3 and Xbox 360 both barely managed 20 games each in 7+ years on the market. How on earth did we cope with such a low output of software?

Because the PS3 and 360 were the most powerful consoles available.  They're not a slight upgrade above Wii graphics getting the same games as a system 4-5 times more powerful.

However, you missed the rule. If a game is available on any other system, it is not a game for that system. ;)

This suddenly makes the lineup on all systems look much smaller, unless it's a Nintendo system.

The Vita came out five to six years after the PS3 or 360.  So if you're into gaming you have one or the other.

But if a game came out on 360, it doesn't count as a game on PS3 surely?

Vita just suffers this from more angles, the games on the system weren't elsewhere massively in advance, it's just that it's games were also 360/PS3, 3DS, iOS/Android which no other system has suffered. However you actually need like 5 systems, to be able to play all Vita's non exclusive content.

On top of that though, even if you do own a PS3 or 360, you still can't take that with you on a flight/on the train/on the bus. The portability factor is what makes Vita appeal to me so much.

If your city has public transportation, that works but what about 99.9% of everywhere else in the US and however much in Europe?

You find me the racing games on 3DS or DS (my favourite genre).

However I won't deny they both have a lot of great games. I never really enjoyed the PSP that much (calling it a PS2 in your hand was a gross over-exaggeration!). DS was my primary handheld format in the previous gen. However this time around, the 3DS just doesn't compare to the Vita for me. Racing games are one of my favourite genres and 3DS just cannot come close to what the Vita offers for this.

Add in that I can play "current gen" FIFA on the move along with awesome ports of Rayman, The Walking Dead etc. 3DS just feels too outdated in comparison.

This suddenly makes the lineup on all systems look much smaller, unless it's a Nintendo system. Remember, in this world, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Assassin's Creed, FIFA, Madden, etc do not exist.

If a game is available on a console that I already own, why exactly should I spend $200 for another system that could play it?  You bring up Call of Duty and GTA, but those are both on console that came out 5+ years before the Vita, and are better suited for that kind of gaming.  The fact that Vita doesn't have a TV output doesn't help matters.

So why should a PS3 or 360 owner want to buy a Vita?  Unless they are really interested in portability, it would have to be for exclusives.  That's why people aren't counting multiplatform games.  If you don't own a PS3 or a 360 or a Vita, why would you choose a Vita over those consoles?  Again, the exclusives would have to be the reason (if you're not travelling alot), and the Vita is lacking in exclusives compared to pretty much any other system.

That's why people say the Vita has no gaemz.  Because multiplatform games do just about nothing to inspire someone to buy a console unless they happen to fall into a specific niche.  It's important to have multiplatform games (see Wii U), but exclusives are far more important.
