Forums - Nintendo - Rumor: Nintendo Set to Release a Skylanders-Style Game for Wii U

Seems like its going to be a pretty crowded market ... Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Nintendo NFC, and Disney is also releasing a Star Wars NFC toy line and a Marvel Comics one as well this year.

Gotta think a LEGO NFC toy line can't be far off either.

a smart way to use the tech and shelf space would be to have one range of figures that are compatible with multiple games, so scanning in new characters for smash as a fast unlock, same for Kart and then have a skylanders style adventure game, and an infinity style creation game.

I think they shouldn't just because I have no more shelf space for figures....

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

They already did it with Pokemon Rumble...... just saying.

Pokemon not shitty version like how Pokemon rumble was? I mean, come on, I dont get how they are taking this long to monetize such a huge franchise on the wiiU...

Pokemon trading card video game where u can play the trading card game online with other people with pokemon trading cards and you can buy the NFC enabled trading cards and scan them on ur wiiU... Come on Nintendo, do something to make money :/

Yup, they should have had a Pokemon game with NFC cards available on launch day or at the very least sometime during the launch window.

Sometimes I can't help feeling that Nintendo are going out of their way to stop the Wii U being successful.

A smart move if handled properly, but I kinda feel like they missed the boat with this. We'll presumably be up to our fourth Skylanders game by the end of this year, and Disney Infinity threw its hat into the ring a while ago as well.

Whatever it is, i hope they don`t go overboard with figurines and they act more as DLC than as part of the main game.

Fun fact -- the Wii U version of Skylanders has nearly outsold the Xbox One and PS4 versions combined.

If you ask me, they already had a corner on the market -- now they own it.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

is a good move.
but how could be the gameplay?
a plataformer? gamecreating?
a game that bring a story for smashbros?(this time SSB seems not to have a story)

I'm very interested to see what they do with NFC.

If it strikes me as 'dodgy', ie. using the same business model as Skylanders or to a lesser extent Infinity, I'll avoid it like the plague.

Conversely though, if it's something additional to the game, I'll be all over it. For instance, if it's used as a quick unlock for certain characters in Smash. I'll pay £10 for a cool figure of, say, Young Link and to be able to play as him from the start without having to play for hours to unlock him.

Or if, apart from the 'main' NFC, game, you could scan characters into other games as one-offs. So if you scanned Pit into Mario Kart, you could play as him in local multiplayer (taking on a generic weight character). I'd be very surprised if MK8 has NFC capabilities. But that's how I'd like to see it used.
