It will, at last, be a very strong advantage to the Gamepad with built-in NFC tech and its touchscreen, it'll make for a somewhat less cumbersome product compared to competing games on competing consoles (only threat, then, would be people who already bought a Wii U for these games, and that's not a problem at all )

This article is based on nothing more than Nintendo's statement about NFC at the conference. It's not news.

That is indeed an impressive collection but it is missing something:

I don't believe one second in things that say "Rumor", but this sentence:

"After a 25-year hiatus, Nintendo will be at Toy Fair 2014"

piqued my interest a little.

Funner fact -- the Skylanders bundle for the Wii U over the holiday did jack all for hardware sales. As far as I could tell it was the far less popular bundle compared to the Mario one. 

Skylanders isn't exactly the type of game X1/PS4 early adopters (mostly males in their late teens-30s) go for anyway, usually more kids get access to those types of consoles after a round or two of price cuts. 

Not contesting any of that. But even after we go through rounds of price cuts -- the Wii U version is still the most affordable entry point to the series in the next-gen. You combine that with Mario, Sonic, other games,  and this Nintendo NFC game, you have a compelling value proposition to families.

Compare also among the 7th gen sales -- the Wii version sells best, even if that system is significantly weaker than 360 and PS3.

My goddaughter has the game and she's crazy about it, but she has a Wii and PS3 in the house so there's no point in buying another system for Skylanders ... $300 buys you like a ton of Skylanders, so why use that money on buying a redudant system for the game. That's how most parents will see it (can't blame them). 

To me I think Disney Infinity is underperforming a little bit too. Maybe the idea will work better with a Star Wars NFC line and Marvel Comics one. 

Remember: can be just a license bussiness for set and collections of toys. Anyway, when this fair will start?

Nintendo's a little late on this. There's certainly potential, though. What type of game would it be?

This would likely be an Animal Crossing game. Makes sense. It has the kind of characters that fit the figurine-style, and they're recognizable, too. They've already done it with Pokemon (Rumble U), so that franchise is out, imo.
