After a 25-year hiatus, Nintendo will be at Toy Fair 2014, which sparks the question: Why are they here now? Various media outlets have speculated that Nintendo might be trying to get in on the interactive toy market utilized by games such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity by releasing their own game with the Nintendo license. If true, this could be the best move for Nintendo to raise the sales of Wii U game consoles.

First, a little background: On Oct. 16, 2011, Activision released Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, a game that took a risk that paid off. Skylanders became so popular that on Aug. 18, 2013, Disney decided to jump in on the interactive toy/video game market by releasing Disney Infinity.

Nintendo is the perfect company to get in on the interactive gaming market. Since its creation in 1996 by Satoshi Tajiri, Pokemon has become the second-most successful video game franchise in the world next to the Mario. Furthermore, the Pokemon franchise itself revolves around collection, an integral part of interactive gaming. Nintendo has already shown that bringing its popular characters together in one game has the potential for great success with Super Smash Bros., a major system mover for the company. Nintendo has so many popular characters that a Skylanders-style game to the Wii U makes a lot of sense.

It’s fair to note that Nintendo did in a small why attempt to make a move in the interactive toy game with Pokemon Rumble. It’s not far-fetched to predict that that Nintendo will be showing off Pokemon Rumble U during Toy Fair this year.

At this point, speculation is all we can do. I don’t know what Nintendo has in store at Toy Fair this week, but we are looking forward to seeing what they present. Still, this is only a rumor, though a lot of people are talking about it. GamerFitNation would like to know what you think.

They hinted at this at the investor meeting. Either Pokemon or Nintendo mascots would be good ideas.

Pokemon trading card video game where u can play the trading card game online with other people with pokemon trading cards and you can buy the NFC enabled trading cards and scan them on ur wiiU... Come on Nintendo, do something to make money :/

exactly, use the NFC on the gamepad to do it with. Those litte plastic toys sellfor $14-$30 each here so loads of money to be made.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing NFC toys for Mario Kart and Smash Bros if they are treated as optional ways to get characters quickly instead of getting them through the game's unlock methods.
