The jump to hd development incurs a significant jump in costs.

in the year 2001 Nintendo released games that were the top tiers of the industry, how the hell can be that cheaper than releasing all these budget conservative games Nintendo has released on WiiU
imagine what Luigis mansion and Wave race costed together then adjust inflation and what you get cant be cheaper than Pikmin3(Wii project), Zelda WW HD and SM3DWorld.

You assume that they are budget conservative but you fail to realize that they are very much the same like the game industry. The fact that W101 costed 30 million dollars just goes to show that nintendo also blows money too. You also forget to account for the fact that hd assets also cost more to produce.
BTW pikmin 3 got moved to the WII U so it also got more expensive to produce.
Even accounting for inflation hd titles still cost more to make.

Kind of like how they hoped Rayman would fill the gap back in early 2013? Kind of like how Sony/MS rely on third party releases to fill gaps between their titles?
Oh Ubisoft.....what a card.

HD development caught them by surprise, please understand. |
Yeah, and Diablo 3 came out. How do you expect productivity in 2013?

They probably were thinking that Wii Fit U + Wii Party U + Mario 3D World + DKC would be evergreen sellers and lead into Mario Kart 8 in March.
Iwata said he expected Wii Fit U to really give the Wii U a lot of momentum.
Actually the GameCube and Wii U are fairly similar in number of titles at the same points in their lifespan:
GameCube through Feb. 2003:
Luigi’s Mansion
Wave Race: Blue Storm*
Pikmin
Super Smash Bros. Melee
NBA Courtside 2002*
Eternal Darkness*
Star Fox Adventures*
Animal Crossing
Super Mario Sunshine
Mario Party 4
Metroid Prime*
Wii U through Feb 2014:
New Super Mario Bros. U
Nintendo Land
Game & Wario
LEGO City Undercover*
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Wii Party U
Wii Fit U
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze*
Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics
Pretty darn even. Main difference is the GameCube had more Western produced software, Rare/NST/Retro/Silicon Knights all contributed 1 game to the GameCube, whereas the Wii U is Retro + Telltale Games (the LEGO guys).
lack of foresight, planning and perhaps ignorance. I have they have a good plan for 2015......

you have no proof W101 costed 30M
Ana NO. Kamiyas trolling doesnt count
HD titles maybe, but budget conservative Nintendo games like SOnic $ MArio, Zelda WWHD, Pikmin 3...etc. i dont think so, you will have to provide some evidence to convince may.
Nintendo have never worked with shaders before so I'm sure that took learning. But imo Wii U isn't failing solely because of lack of games. If you look at the most sucessful consumer electronics products they have one thing in common in that they have high asthetic appeal, simpily put they look good.
The PS4 I think is the best looking console sales will reflect this, the XB1 design is not very refined and is a bit on the large size and the Wii U's design problems I believe rest on the gamepad which looks quite cheap.
