Forums - Nintendo - What was Nintendo originally planning for Q1-Q2 on Wii U?

tagged for whenever someone want to pretend a port selling 100k on the wii U is somehow profitable

Ubisoft went on record in the past pointing out that it was relatively inexpensive for them to make a port of a game for Wii U. Meaning that, a title for them, selling over 100k+, while certainly not GOOD sales, would still actually make them a modest profit. It goes without saying that anyone wants their game to sell more than that, and it goes without saying that higher sales would bring in higher profits. But the fact of the matter is, we're not talking about ground-up exclusives, we're talking about (in some cases neutered) ports of multiplatform games, which they can turn a profit on.

So.................yup.

You'd have to wonder if Nintendo was hoping that Watch Dogs might help to fill the gap between DK and MK. Not first party, but a hyped and (potentially) quality release from their biggest major third party supporter might have done the trick.

Exactly like Rayman Legends one year ago, then.

Nintendo Network ID: Cheebee   3DS Code: 2320 - 6113 - 9046

Oddworld games coming soon I thought arent they re-doing two off them for wii u and ps4 or am I wrong?

Plus watch dogs, sonic boom maybe and any more random games that get announced

Honestly, I'm expecting bayonetta 1 to be announced soon , coming june-july, then bayonetta 2 for december.

That looks like easy money - the game "just" needs to be ported to an entirely new fanbase (I doubt there is many wii u owners that played original bayo)

I expect this to be fixed for the late half of 2014 and the early half of 2015! Games were delayed to fill gaps, they probably looked at x1 and ps4 post launch games and delayed a few games to the second half of the year to beef up holiday, and with that shift it will shift games to early 2015.So one more drought till the real war this holiday. And Im not worried too much about 3rd party support in just the last week Sonic Boom was announced as an exclusive and the new transformers game is coming to the wii u ,more will be announced but for the second half of the year like always!

We all know all games cost the same to port lol did they even specify what game they were talking about when they said that quote was it just dance? assassin's creed? ESPN: sport connection? Yeeee sure, if it was so cheap the wii U would be rolling in ports not in droughts

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

You assume that they are budget conservative but you fail to realize that they are very much the same like the game industry. The fact that W101 costed 30 million dollars just goes to show that nintendo also blows money too. You also forget to account for the fact that hd assets also cost more to produce.

BTW pikmin 3 got moved to the WII U so it also got more expensive to produce.

Even accounting for inflation hd titles still cost more to make.

you have no proof W101 costed 30M

Ana NO. Kamiyas trolling doesnt count

HD titles maybe, but budget conservative Nintendo games like SOnic $ MArio, Zelda WWHD, Pikmin 3...etc. i dont think so, you will have to provide some evidence to convince may.

Not sure where the exact figure is coming from but this doesn't sound like trolling from his side:

"We've never used this size of a team and this amount of time to build a game before,"

Definitely the most expensive game Platinum Games has created (before Bayonetta 2 at least). So should easily be $20m without advertising.

Sonic Lost World, Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3 aren't that conservative either.

are you telling me that theW101 costs about the same or more than Uncharted 3???

do you realize how stupid that sounds, and please all WiiU games are cheap as fuck, all look like HD Wii games, Mario 3DWorld is the only one that makes a good use of WiiUs GPU but thats it.

I remember reading the Uncharted 2 costed $20M to be made and it was groundbreaking technologically speaking back in 2009.

It's just ridiculous if W101 costed $30M.
