There will definitely be a price cut this year before holidays. That's a good moment to pick up the console with bundle of MK or Smash Bros.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why would they drop the price when MK / Smash Bros. release? Shouldnt the games boost the sales enough already?

How much do you want to play MK8 and SSB?

I don't mind waiting a few months.  I can definitely wait until after SSBU comes out, as MK8 alone can get boring, but I don't think I'll want to wait much longer after SSBU comes out.

But not in the same week. They can drop the price when the hype dies, although we don't know the Smash Bros's release date so could not happen this year too (2015 would be a safe bet for price cut).

I ordered the Wii U Zelda: Wind Waker HD bundle online for €280. That's a pretty good price considering all other stores in my country sell it for €300 and Zelda: Wind Waker HD by itself costs a whooping €57 here!

I could also get the Super Mario bros. U + Luigi U bundle for €280, but I'm not really a big fan of those "lazy" 2D Mario games. And I've never played Zelda: Wind Waker before, so it's a brand new game for me. So I basically got a Wii U for €230. Worth it in my opinion.

You can't really trust comments like "no price cut" because many times we've heard this and then seen a price drop like 1-2 months later.

Like a few weeks before the 3DS by price cut by $80 I believe Iwata said they weren't considering a 3DS price cut and would wait for games to come out.

I wonder perhaps if Mario Kart coming out in late May (basically June) may have something to do with a price cut coming around that time (right around E3 too) and they're just waiting for that time for component costs to drop.

Even if there is no official price cut... perhaps they bundle the WiiU with MK8 (official bundle or unofficial bundles by some shops) for a good bargain.

There is no doubt that I will eventually buy a Wii U.  The reason I am yet to do so is because there are not enough games to make it worth it for me, yet.  That will immediately change with the release Mario Kart 8 (May 30, 2014) and Super Smash Brothers for Wii U (Later 2014).  Yes, these two games are enough to keep me occupied.  Of course I'll get more later on, but those two will be enough for a while.

I would like a to see a Wii U price cut before I buy one, because I like money.  However, I don't know how long it will be before the Wii U has another price cut, being we had one rather recently in September, correct me if I'm wrong.

So my question to the forum is would I be better off waiting for a price cut, risking that I may wait a very long time when I could be playing games, or if I should just buy it as soon as MK8 and/or SSBU comes out, risking that I may spend more money than necessary?

In other words, when do think the Wii U will have its next price cut?

I honestly think that when the next price cut happens will depend on the preorders and subsequent sales of Mario Kart 8. If it metts exoectations, then next year; if not, they might try a non-gamepad SKU or drop the price slghtly this year. GIven thaat the performance of Mario Kart 8 is up in the air and we don't know what Nintendo's expectations are, I'm genuinely not sure.

If all goes well this year, there will be no price cut anytime soon.

whuxch means yes, wait.

"All goes well" is relative, though. It depends on what NIntendo expects.

There will be some sort of price cut this year. Probably sooner rather than later considering it's down YOY in the US and Japan.

Well that's to be expected as early 2013 was partially runover from the Wii U launch. What matters more is the months to come, and while it doesn't look that good for late-March through mid-May, Mario Kart might make the difference. And concerning a price cut, NIntendo would be wise to do a non-Gamepad SKU as a straight-up price cut would just incur more losses with no guarantee that such money would be made back by selling software. Not sure if it will happen though.
