Forums - Microsoft - Would Microsoft pull the plug?

Can't predict the future, we just know MS needs to make some price changes in the future to stimulate sales.

well...now this is just from someone who uses their brain, but it probably matters to people considering buying the unit and people who own it because if the product is discontinued there is almost no incentive for games to be published on the platform if the base is below X.

Xbox doesn't need to be on top to be profitable. Who cares if PS sells better right now it doesn't mean Xbox won't have a bright future. Just like WP it's starting to sell better now. This idea that you need to be the top seller to be relevant is kinda sad really. The more choice the better.

But if MS were to pull the plug on Xbox I think it would be 4 years from now and move on to full digital services no consoles needed.

I think it's ridiculous that people already talking about pulling the plug. The consoles are just on the market! And eventhough PS4 sells better, Xbox one is doing still much better than they did with the original Xbox and Xbox360 so it's wurth nothing to mention they should pull the plug. I really don't want them to pull the plug. I can imagine that present day the stock holders work different from 10/15 years ago and want quick revenue etc but I'm sure Xbox one will do fine and maybe when they announce a price reduction and when all those fantastic games come out (Titanfall, Quantum Break, Sunset etc) everything could be turned around!

Too early. PS3 came back after it's awful start, Xbone can as well. What is more significant is if many of the board of MS have their way. Keeping to the largely profitable parts of the company is always a good thing. Xbox hasn't been largely profitable which for investors is bad.

Hmm, pie.

Again there is and never was many of the board members that want MS to axe Xbox division...

I will start by g I'm not trolling spewing doom or downplaying the good launch of Xbox One.

But if we go by NPD January 2014 numbers, X1 sold almost 1/2 of Ps4 and with all the push from some shareholders to kill consoles division and previous history from original Xbox cut of support we can say it isn't impossible for Ms to pull the plug. And since I doubt Sony would let them release nextbox a full year before Ps5 (that is if Sony don't sink before it) Ms won't be able to repeat the scenario of X360 sucess so maybe they could decide to kill the division if Xbox One bombs (in their metrics, not in the quality of the system or games)?

If you were to guess, in which scenario Ms would kill it's division? How many units sold in how long?

I predict that if Xbone fails to sell 30M LTD before 5y on the market they will leave the bussiness. Likewise if before this timeframe they drop to less than 3M a year it would also happen let's say year 3 it meets 30M and it's viable but start dropping fast and year 5 it sells 2M then I would say they may release a premature Xbox 360 Two.

That's exactly what you're doing...   It would be like me going into the Sony forum and asking "What if Sony started losing 2.5 billion a year for the next 7 years, would it be the end of the Playstation brand?"  Do you think that would even be worth discussing?

The system has only been on the market for 3 months and is selling faster than 360 did.  So why not at least wait to see if it actually runs into trouble before making threads with imaginary disaster scenarios.

Nope, selling 30M isn't doom, as gen 6 proved.

And we have several threads about sony bankrupcy, and most would agree that if sony loses 3B a year it would close before ps5 but wouldn't cut support of ps4 due to low sales. While Ms have basically 0% chance of going under but have shown that they cut support quite easily if expectations aren't met.

Good thing that possibility is slim and none.

But it doesn't take much of brain to realize that.

Have people seriously discussing if XBone will suceed or not? That wasn't the point of the thread, since I don't think it is doomed. The point was which condition would make they pull the plug, so far I think just 3 people read the OP and others are just rushing to defend it.

I want them to stay in the business, I bought a xbo earlier than I said I would when I got the chance, I want consoles to succeed. Sony would be so damn complacent right now with out MS right behind them.

I do not want to see the xbox name sold to a shitastic mobile company. Anything could happen in the business world.

Yep, competition is very important.

Why ANY gamer would want one of the 3 to fail is beyond me.

Have your preferences by all means but to hate to the extent of wanting something you don't own or have an interest in to fail is just silly.

Pick a sports team to blindly follow, thats the whole point of doing that essentially.

No, they won't based on current sales. The xbone's first couple months were far better than the wiiU. While January is only a little better that the wiiU's first January, those aren't bad sales by any means. What was bad with the wiiU was the massive drop off after the first few months.
