Have you beaten Xenoblades? Maybe that's why...

I love Xenoblade, I own two copies of the game including the artbook. Which is exactly why I must curb my enthusiasm.   However, that doesn't mean I am not optimistic about the game. 

I was also getting at those who take one look at the game and say it is more of the same, blah blah.

Xenoblade was no less epic than Xenosaga

i don't know what your definition of epic is but i'll try to give mine for better understanding. and to make it easy and not too timeconsuming let me state a passage of a xenosaga 3 review that pretty much says what a mean:

"The initial hours of the game, and we definitely mean hours, will strike you down with a barrage of information that you’re hopefully looking forward to. If not, prepare to get blindsided by its sheer volume, and it’s not just Episode III. It’s extenuated by the Database, which helps detail the backstory and the passage of time between the second and third games and just about everything else you could ever want to know within the Xenosaga world. It’s also been upgraded to allow for more accessibility and comprehension with the inclusion of illustrations. The downside to this is if you aren’t willing to be fully immersed in this tome of reference then you’ll miss out on the plot’s finer details. And even if you are, the constant need to check this reference detracts from the scope of the story. With that out of the way, the story has over eight hours of voice-acted cutscenes. To say the game is story heavy is an overwhelming understatement, but it by no means has a negative impact on the game, and is what we’ve come to expect from the series."

now compared to that xenoblade certainly is a downgrade in complexity and depth. and from what i've seen from the x trailers so far, i fear that this game will be another downgrade compared to xenoblade.

So you're saying that to be epic, it needs a lot of readable back story?  If that be the case, how can you say X isn't epic when we have no idea how much readable back story exists?   As for Xenoeblade, you might be the first person on the Internet to claim the game wasn't epic.  Did you even play it?  Did you do all 450 side quests?

exactly that is my problem right now because so far i have nothing seen that indicates there is something epic storywise behind it. i mean we are in 3 game updates right now and all we get is roaming and gameplay? how about character introductions and storyteasers, you know the usual way how jrpgs are introduced normally? the way they're presenting it right now looks for example more like ffxiv than ffxv and thats what makes me suspicious.

as for xenoblade: no i did no play it myself because i have no wii but i watched things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mko28Ykwxw4 extensively so i think i pretty much know the extent of the plot behind it and how it compares to xenosaga.

I would say the biggest difference between the two is the gameplay. On MH and its clones your slashes are manually controlled by you. Xenoblade plays more like an MMO and your attacks are automated. You manually activate the special skills. I'm not sure combat like that would be akin to the monster hunter formula. Thank you so much for your reiterating your opinion about the differences in those genres once again ^_^  Doesn't change my outlook one iota though. I think Phantasy Star Online is a hunting game and that's an MMO.   So until I see something that shows me otherwise it's still MH w/  Mechs to me.  I'm not saying that you are wrong. Simply that I don't agree with your assessment.  


In phantasy star online you are in control of your slashes. Again, in Xeno you arent. Its an auto-attack.

Have you even played Xenoblade to be making these assumptions?


Not Xenoblade. Xenogears and saga.  I have made no assumption except what the game looks like to me which is Monster Hunter with Mechs.  So once again thank you for your opinion and assumptions as well but they wont be making me change mine. Only more footage or someone whom has played X and not the tons of games it looks similar to will do that.
