Which type of Mario game do you think is better - 2D or 3D? I think the 3D are vastly superior to the 2D.

I think the 3D Mario games are much better. I am not really a huge fan of the 2D Mario games besides Mario World. I don't hate the 2D games, but I would gladly take Mario 64, Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2 and 3D World over them ( Sunshine not so much.. sorry :/ ). I simply think the 3D games are more creative and more fun in general.

I think 3d Mario games are just so much more fresh and innovative and amazing and etc... But I do have to wonder if thats cause the 2d mario games gets released more frequently than 3d ones...

Love the 3D games so much more. The 2D games are great and a lot of fun, but the 3D games are special.

3D Easily, 2D games imo, just are boring and NSMBU I thought was bad.

Despite stumbling into 3D, I have found the Galaxy entries have finally lifted 3D Mario tot he excellence of 2D Mario. The main issue with recent 2D Marios is feels like Nintendo played it safe in many regards. If they had a Galaxy 3 on Wii U that was as ambitious as the Wii titles 3D might just surpass 2D for me.

So, 2D slightly holds the edge for now, but 3D has been closing in fast in recent decade.

There hasn't been a Mario that's topped SMB3.

2D Mario can be pretty hardcore
