I agree with a lot of parts in your review although I think the final score is high (i gave it a 7 in the poll)...while I have yet to beat the game, whenever I play it I feel like it just isn't very good as a game, despite the fact that it is quite wonderful to look at and still can be fun.

I loved this game. Probably my 4th or 5th favorite game of the 2013, but I totally get all those criticisms. I also hated how the 3 main characters barely communicated with one another outside main story. It pales in comparison to Tales of. Could you imagine a Ni No Kuni like Pokemon game... with the better AI and all the Pokes!!! Money in da bank!

Who rated 1 in the poll? I'll send you a friend request. I rated 4 because I reviewed the game 4.75/10.  I know you round up if it's .5 or higher,  but I felt Ni No Kuni deserved to be rounded down.

I give it a 9.5, 1 point extra because it has hand drawn cut scenes by studio Ghibli. I didn't mind the fetch quests in this game, the world is just so lovely to travel through. Hopefully studio Ghibli will expand and make more rpgs. They are the best at world building.

Level-5 is interested in making a game out of the world of castle in the sky. I hope that comes true some day.

Nice review, Basil! It seems like the score should have been under 80 based on the socre given for the gameplay and such.

Studio Ghibli may be a big reason why I love this game as much as I do but I honestly thought this game was fantastic. Personally, 9.5/10.

AI is in fact pretty damn terrible though.

I own this game, it is bad, but not that good either.
