and if you take what the wii and ds were selling when they were at the top, no other company, ever, sold more machines than Nintendo was. That was utter dominance, Sony never sold game machines on a yearly rate like that, not even close.

On top of that... being the king of software sales hasn't hurt NIntendo either.

Well, I mean, that's simply down to reading the article regarding Sony's 1.1B dollar loss, reading the actual facts regarding the situation actually tells...well, anyone who cares to look into it that this is a major attempt at both restructuring and what could very well be a return to profitability by getting rid of their two biggest losing divisions.  Won't have a huge impact until 2015-2016 when they stop having to cover the VAIO costs/warranties, but it's certainly improved their financial outlook moving forward.

Well according to the bloomberg report on it, Sony hasn't, or kaz, hasn't done any real restructuring. The investors aren't happy, and if you read the Bloomberg story, really, Sony isn't much different today than they were a couple of years ago. Without selling buildings, their losses would have been even more massive. They need to do something extreme, and when they do, they will be a shell of their former self, but at least they will exist.... If they keep basically doing nothing(the pc sector is a start) then they WILL go bankrupt. Son is in deep trouble, nothing they've done is looking like they will be better off in 2016... Look up the bloomberg story... Very eye opening, and depressing.

Sure I will. They've done away with the pc extir, but have yet to pull the trigger on the tv. Thing is, they have to actually do these things. They almost have to be a games only company, and at that point, will it be enough? Because even that has lost money too. Thing is, with all the money they owe, they may break even, which I doubt, and that leaves them with no cushion. That's tough for a company. I sincerely hope they come out of this. If we look at this objectively, even with the most optimistic outlook, things do not look good at all for Sony... And that's sad.

There should be. I'd be surprised if there weren't with how popular the PS4 is.

If sales were an indicator then this forum should be full of past Wii Sports grannies posting about how Nintendo is the best, but turns out the grannies don't post on gaming forums much. ;P

Eh?  You must mean the sky high share valuation which fell over 80% since it's peak.  Nintendo has 1/3 of Sony's equity.

To be fair to vgchartz, the whole internet is more dominated by Sony. Just go on youtube and read the comments on gaming vids. Or n4G. Or look at IGN's recent PS4 v X1 polls. Or anything.

So it's no different than elsewhere. I'd categorize things as maybe, 60% Sony, 30% Ninty, 10% MS.

Looking at the sales of consoles right now when you take in the X1/360 and put them against the Ps3/4/psp/Vita then it does appear that from a number of gamers point of view it is natural that there would be slightly more buyers/fans of Playstation branded Hardware.

I really don't know how it's a shock to anyone that there appears to be more talking about Sony brand systems. Tis literally on the front page of this site why that happens.

Long time VGC user here.

VGC is a sales site the console doing best in sales tends to have the best VGC representation on the boards. Sony is killing it. Thus they have more of their fans online. Back in 06-09 this place was overrun with Nintendo fanboys (which I fall into lol).



End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Sony fans may have the numbers but I've seen way more annoying Xbox fans in the last few months. They constantly feel the need to remind everyone about Sony's financial difficulties and downplay PS4's extremely successful launch simply because it's doing better than their console of choice. We get it, Sony isn't in the best financial position. But they're not going bankrupt tomorrow so find something else to use in console wars. Sony fans don't feel the need to bring up Microsoft's many failures with Bing and Zune. Last I checked they're still losing billions on Bing every year. Of course none of this is relevant towards gaming so I don't bring it up.

Oh yeah, and the utterly stupid amount of hype over a generic first person shooter with robots. This isn't a shooter like Bioshock or Half-life, there's nothing revolutionary or mind-blowing going on. We have people actually calling it game of the generation. Why? Because it's not on PS4. I'm excited for Infamous Second Son, but there is no way I'm going to start calling the best game ever and act like it's going to change the face of gaming. It just looks like a fun game.

Alright, rant over. Glad I got that off my chest.

Yeah, just like GAF and so many other Websites, vgchartz is just full of nasty Sony Fanboys! I hear that all the time. But well, if Sony indeed has that massive fanbase eyerywhere on the internet, they gotta be doing something right, don't they?
