Lol. People still fight about this?

What on earth would Sony gain, if this site deliberately changed the numbers to falsely claim that the PS3 has beaten the X360??? Conspiracy theories like this are ridiculous. |
Just had to throw it out there, since this is constently used as a arguement against MS. Many, many time I have heard this about MS money hatting someone. So now this is the other side of the coin.
Which with this sites biasism, it's more likely then all the other conspiracy theories.

No this theory is just as ridiculous as the other theories.
Literally 90% of the time we get NPD numbers we can be sure that the 360 is the most overtracked home console, just this December the PS4 was over 200k undertracked while the X1 was pretty much spot on and also we get Vita numbers every week that certainly don't make Sony look good, just like the numbers for the exclusive games Sony sometimes just send out die like Starhawk, Twisted Metal or Puppeteer are easily available here and certainly don't shine a pleasant light on them. This website is not trying to make Sony systems or games look better than the competition.

So you got the joke. C'mon man, really.. did you think I was serious?
it's pretty obvious I'm just holding up a mirror and having a laugh.

| McGran said: I've been puzzled by the back and forth on these numbers for a while so I decided to go back through the Sony & MS financials to get the annual shipped numbers from source. X360 numbers are easy as MS always states them straight up. PS3 numbers are fine except for FY12 (FY11 and earlier listed PS3 separately. FY13 only contains PS3 & PS4 and we know PS4 was 4.2m, leaving 6.7m PS3s). For FY12 I've assumed 4m PS2s (just 100k less than FY11) leaving 12.5m PS3s. So that gives us 83.6m PS3s and 82m X360s shipped. Assuming similar numbers on shelves the PS3 should be 1-1.5m ahead in sales. Is there a glaring error in my calculation somewhere?

Well, we do know that Sony shipped 80 million PS3´s by the beginning of november and MS shipped 80 million 360´s by sometime in october and an additional 3,5-3,6 million consoles by the end of december. This would put 360 at 83.5-83.6 shipped and Sony somewhere around 83 million shipped (depending on shipments in November).
Pretty close, meaning Sony has been more succesful on average since their respective launches, yet MS seelling more in total. They are both winners in their own respect :).

The PS3 numbers are up for debate but the X360 numbers are fixed at 82m as of 31st December 2013. That is the sum of all MS financials.

Makes no sense to me, really need a price cut for both. |
Yeah, I still know people who get systems mid to late life cycle are still put off by lack of solid $199 model. Really odd generation to never have time at that price point.

Statistical tie I'd say. They're too close to say who's ahead.

It seems we where both wrong :): http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=170453&page=1
As of the end of september, X360 stood at 79,4mn shipped worldwide. With the added 3,5 million during holidays, it puts the total at 82,9mn shipped, probably on par with PS3. Most likely slightly ahead, since Sony would definately put out a press release if they passed the 360.

So I've looked at the link and it clearly shows MS reported 1.2m in Q1. Add the 3.5m in Q2 and you get 4.7m (as I've shown against Q2 FY14). What is not clearly referenced is where the 79.4m figure comes from. I think it could be wrong.
Look, don't trust me - I might be wrong but don't trust those other numbers either - they might be wrong too. Instead just count it for yourself from MS yearly financials. Those numbers have to be correct - they don't get more official than that. Now I counted it all up and arrived at 82m, check it out and see if I added up incorrectly at some point.
Here's the link: http://www.microsoft.com/investor/EarningsAndFinancials/Earnings/PressReleaseAndWebcast/FY14/Q2/default.aspx
If the numbers aren't on the front page then go to Segment Results and select Devices & Consumer Hardware. It's all pretty easy to find excpet perhaps the earliest couple of years where you'll have to root through a Word doc (or at least I did - let me know if you find those numbers easier somewhere else).
