| McGran said: I've been puzzled by the back and forth on these numbers for a while so I decided to go back through the Sony & MS financials to get the annual shipped numbers from source. X360 numbers are easy as MS always states them straight up. PS3 numbers are fine except for FY12 (FY11 and earlier listed PS3 separately. FY13 only contains PS3 & PS4 and we know PS4 was 4.2m, leaving 6.7m PS3s). For FY12 I've assumed 4m PS2s (just 100k less than FY11) leaving 12.5m PS3s. So that gives us 83.6m PS3s and 82m X360s shipped. Assuming similar numbers on shelves the PS3 should be 1-1.5m ahead in sales. Is there a glaring error in my calculation somewhere?

Well, we do know that Sony shipped 80 million PS3´s by the beginning of november and MS shipped 80 million 360´s by sometime in october and an additional 3,5-3,6 million consoles by the end of december. This would put 360 at 83.5-83.6 shipped and Sony somewhere around 83 million shipped (depending on shipments in November).
Pretty close, meaning Sony has been more succesful on average since their respective launches, yet MS seelling more in total. They are both winners in their own respect :).
