Forums - Microsoft - What's so great about Titanfall?

I've been asking myself the same thing.

Though unlike OP I actually do like the occasional FPS if it's good and original. Titanfall just seems dull, unoriginal and uninspired to me. I didn't get the praise back at E3, and I don't get it now. Also, being multiplayer only is total fail and eliminates any interest I might have had in the first place (ignoring the game being EA).

If we consider pre-orders numbers in the US, how is it going to be so much bigger than Second Son?

I understand the hype, but I really think something has changed this gen.

Multiplayer attracts longer term gamers and competitive gamers. Outside of the gaming world very few know about it, but once the name catches on it might just sell like wildfire. Problem is the question is whether casuals like their COD with mechs.

The greatest thing about titanfall is the outrage, no matter if it will be the perfect game only getting 100% scores, it will never top the outrage

The game would be hyped on any platform. Much like Destiny.

Titanfall threads per day? Like 30

Destiny threads per ever? 0

You just picked a random multiplatform game that is a new IP

Oh boy... I love giving people responses that require little logic. Titanfall is going to be released much sooner and has a beta coming in about a week.

Furthermore, many of the Titanfall threads are posted by Sony fans. People make threads to question its exclusivity, people are debating if they should get a Xbox console to play it, people keep asking why there is hype, I even recall a thread claiming MS is hiding the 360 port because its so similar to the X1 port. It seems like much of the discussion is being created by people that don't plan on playing it.

When Destiny gets closer to launch I anticipate atleast a 100+ threads focusing on how superior the PS4 version is to the X1. It'll be Tomb Raider all over again.

And yet, there's been way less Tomb Raider threads than TF threads, not to mention the ones that do show up have definitive proof of how the PS4 version is "superior", instead of being a simple opinion or speculation. If Destiny is anything like that, then it isn't comparable to TF.

And if there's gonna be detractors about it, let me be the first one: this just looks like Halo with augmented powers (like how TF is just Cod with mechs)

Titanfall preorders? 215,402 (XBOX ONE alone) out in one month.

Destiny preorders? 189,793 (XBOX ONE alone) out in 7 months.

Bungie would like to tell where you can go with your zero threads ever...

What does that have to do with anything? People are aware of the game so therefore they are hyped for it right now? I thought hype was when you see all kinds of praise from previews and people are constantly talking about the subject and how they can't wait to get their hands on it. For example, I'm hyped for MGSV: Ground Zeroes, and that comes out in a month, but do you see anyone talking about the preorder numbers? No, they just talk about game itself, the differences between the XBone and PS4 version, game length, etc.

I'm not discounting that preorder numbers are indicative of anticipation for a game, but in the realm of discussion for the game, Destiny is low

You know, initially, this was a bullet point for why I thought this game would be alright. Then I remembered that that same bullet point was used for HAZE: "HAZE is gonna be great! It's being made by Free Radical which is the team of people that made Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark and Time Splitters!"

Goldeneye 64, Perfect Dark, and Time Splitters were classics, yet HAZE ended up a turd, despite hype and praise before it was released

Now I don't wanna use "these are the guys that made CoD4" as a talking point for TF anymore, because the symptoms are the same

You know... sometimes great games come from people who worked on other great games.

But great job cherry picking a scenario where that didn't happen and the result was a mediocre game.

That wasn't a cherry pick, it was a means to temper expectations soley on "They made CoD. TF will automatically be good"

But just another example: Twisted Metal PS3. Jaffe made the originals and they were great; PS3 TM was mediocre compared to them. Or Blue Dragon.  Made by the guy who made Final Fantasy. Mediocre.

But on the flip side, we have Kamiya (creator of DMC) and Bayonetta which was a great game. All I was trying to say was that just because the guys that made CoD4 are making this game doesn't make TF automatically good. So I wouldn't use that as a bullet point. If there were no examples of the creators of great games making new studios and then making games hyped up because of their prior work.....and they didn't live up to the hype, then I wouldn't have said it. But there are several examples of this.

You just accused me of a "cherrypick" because you too believe that TF will be great because West and Zampella are making it and you didn't like my point that showed that that may not be the case.

Once again, the reason there are so many TF threads is because many people post threads attempting to bash it. Like this very thread we're in right now.

Take those away and you have 90% less TF discussion.

It's the ultimate dudebro game that looks like it doesn't require a lot of cerebral activity to play and it's not on any Sony systems, so the Xbox fanboy's hype it up as the second coming of christ.

For all the people that dislike the Call of Duty franchise on this website there seems to be a disappropriate amount of love for COD 6: Mechs.

Yeah except gamers have had a chance to play Titanfall now and the people who did are echoing those same claims made by the press. Also, you can find a few articles hyping up any turd, Haze included. But did Haze win 60 or whatever E3 awards? Not even close to the same mount of praise or hype.

You're right, it didn't get a bunch of E3 awards (I don't think), but TF is also the first "big" Xbone game and an "intro to next gen" as some would say. That would warrant it as one of the best games at E3 considering not much else was shown at E3 for the PS4 or XBone. Whereas an E3 where Haze was shown (2007) was the year of Halo 3, Uncharted, CoD4, The Orange Box, Crysis, Rock Band, Mass Effect, and more. That's some stiff competition.

Not to take away from TFs success at E3, but keep things in perspective. When the only competition at E3 for TF was launch games, Second Son, and Destiny and TF at least looks good, since they had gameplay footage....of course it's gonna get "Best of the Show", "Best Gameplay", etc. awards.

But there's still examples of people who did a hands on preview, praising the game (from the same multiplayer demo that was available to everyone else, not some press only early review copy).
