Uh no? That sounds like the dumbest thing ever. Did they learn nothing from the PSP GO? How about they drop the damn Kinect that 90% of gamers don't want. It's not even used for gaming anymore, it's nothing more than an interface tool. I have no need to shout at my TV at 2 in the morning and wake up everyone in my house when I can just press a button.

Would love to know where that 90% came from...

Here's 83%:

But I was trying to illustrate a point, in that most gamers don't care about Kinect. I mean what XBO games are even centered around kinect? Fighter Within? I heard that was awful. It's been reduced to nothing more than an interface tool.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

A Discless XB One would be retail suicide. I don't think MS would be that stupid, then again I was dismissing all the DRM Box rumors before they pulled a 180. Retailers would have no reason to carry the console. They make their money on software.

That's not even taking into consideration the other potential problems. Some internet service providers have data caps. Larger games would take a significant time to download. The Blu-Ray drive isn't even a significant part of the XB1's cost, Kinect is. Since they've built a significant part of the XB1's functionality around Kinect they to need to find away to make it desirable to the general public.

Why isn't the Kinect white also?

Kinect's racist?

As someone who remembers people laughing at the idea of download songs form MP3 players - that will take all day! And people who laughed at internet streaming - maybe someday, but the world isn't ready for it yet! I think a diskless model may be coming, but I don't think it will be out this holiday.

The retails would hold their breath and hold and refuse to sell Xboxes.  It's not the consumers that are the problem, it's the retailers that are holding back progress.  But's just a matter of time.

It's selling very well, it's making them money. Xbox One has an amazing line up this year, it will do fine.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

As an option it would be ok. But MS would have to face the same Problems as Sony had with the PSP Go. Many retailers will refuse to sell the hardware because they earn next to nothing with the consoles. If they can't earn money with the games, why should they bother to sell systems for MS? Also, the demand for such a sytem is still very low. To make such a console attractive it would have to be considerably cheaper than the PS4. Because at 399 people will just get the PS4 with Blu-Ray as a discless X1 will feel somewhat downgraded in comparison.

I don't see it happening. Wait 5 years, I think they will launch the Xbox Two without a disc drive and with their initial DRM.

They'd need to add a second HDMI in port. One for the cable set top box and one for the blu-ray player that you'd have to buy in order to watch your DVD and blu-ray movie/TV show collection.

Greenberg said "No" as the first word to the response. If the discless Xb one is on the cards, but he wanted to keep people guessing he wouldn't have started with "No", he would have just gone straight into you can't believe everything. If the discless Xb one does turn out to be real it pretty much makes this tweet a lie. Greenberg might be a spin doctor but I don't feel like he's a liar. Of course I would have said "It's complete BS, stupidest idea ever." if I wanted to leave no room for ambiguity.

It may be an idea that's floating around MS as a possible response if they really start falling behind PS4. So while it's a no now, it may become a yes later on. I think before they push any panic buttons they are going to see how the USA settles down once PS4 supply can meet demand. If they are going toe to toe with PS4 in the USA after PS4 supply and demand balance out I don;t think there's much need to panic.

Besides, I don't MS can do anything much to reverse what's going on in Europe, I certainly don't think a box without a Blu ray drive at the same price as PS4 is going to do anything for them in the markets where they're struggling. Europe didn;t care about Kinect on 360, and it most probably doesn't care about Kinect on Xb one. In fact the best think MS can do in Europe is release a $379 Xb one without Kinect. Europe would be O_o about discless sku at same price as PS4, and it would be about Kinectless sku at a lower price than PS4.

Yes it should... Discs are for old people...,

and 90% don't want Kinect well buy a ps4 it's cheaper more powerful and without Kinect...

apparently plenty of people are fine buying something more expensive less powerful with Kinect...

anyway I would have bought a disc less sku with 1tb for 500 if it had been available at launch...

The PS4 and Xbone teardowns showed that the blu-ray drive costs ~$30, so with this in mind I don't see how a drive-less Xbone selling for $399 would work for MS, and if the price was $469, then I don't see how the loss of practicality is worth a $30 saving. With this gen having ~30-50GB games, I just don't feel that there is a large enough market of people with sufficiently large download speeds (let alone people on download quota's) to think that trade-off worthwhile.

The Blu Ray drive shouldn't cost that much, so a $399 X1 without one is kind of hard to believe but I can see it without Kinect. As for it being release this year? I guess its plausible but only if the sales of the X1 really stagnates against the PS4 and that's a big if.
