Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Dismisses Rumor Of Discless $399 Xbox One, But Should It Exist?

It would be yet another mistake in the long line of mistakes the gaming division have made since announcing the XboxONE.

Are they going to name it the XboxONEgo??

Drop the Kinect. Is there even a game out that can't be used without it??

How can this meme be taken seriously when it's implying removing the disc drive allows dropping the price $100?
A Blu-Ray drive just is nowhere near $100, especially not a bulk order by OEM.
The cost is probably around $25, so on the large immaterial to a $100 price drop.
So if MS want to drop the price much via subsidizing it, they can do so now without any change to the drive.

Also showing this meme to be a sham is it's complete silence on physical retailer relations,
who actually make money on retail game sales, and not really all that much on console sales.
Handling that would be a CRUCIAL element of such a change, so ZERO MENTION of it just rings bells: FAKE.

I just don't think it would work. Not in the U.S.

As of 1/14/2014 the average internet speed in the U.S. is 7.2 mbs. Yup, 7.2. At that speed, downloading even a 30 gb game would take you 10 hours. 50 gb games? 16.5 hours. That's a huge amount of time. That simply wouldn't work for enough people to make sense. Especially since places with slower internet tend to be lower income places where they would most benefit from a price drop.

The infrastructure just isn't there yet.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Uh no? That sounds like the dumbest thing ever. Did they learn nothing from the PSP GO? How about they drop the damn Kinect that 90% of gamers don't want. It's not even used for gaming anymore, it's nothing more than an interface tool. I have no need to shout at my TV at 2 in the morning and wake up everyone in my house when I can just press a button.

90% lol. You know you dont have to yell at it. Calibrate it right and a normal voice gets it for me. If there is noise coming from everywhere it does have a hard time then tho

Why isn't the Kinect white also?

It looks like the sides are. Not sure why it's like that though.

Would love to know where that 90% came from...

Get rid of the kinect!! People don't want it. What is wrong with selling it separately? People that want it will buy it themselves and MS could probably make a bigger profit on it by selling it separately.

I have Google Fiber. Any guesses on how I feel about discless over there?

The X1 doubles up as a bluray player so no, it would never go discless.
