Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Prediction: There won't be a proper Zelda game for Wii U

My guess is the Wii U will get a Zelda game in 2015 ... *however* it won't be a mega-budget Zelda with visuals like those of the E3 trailer of a few years ago.

But it will still be a very good game, perhaps a multiplayer Zelda that takes a lot of cues from A Link Between Worlds with very nice graphics (Aonuma's recent comments seem to hint at this), just not mega-budget visuals. And it will be a "proper" Zelda, with the proper amount of content and story and all that.

I actually agree. A proper Zelda game with high-end graphics would cost too much for Nintendo's sales expectations. It just wouldn't fit with their business strategy.

So alienating your fanbase would be a wiser business strategy ?

Iwata's latest presentation didn't give much thought to the fanbase.

He was addressing shareholders not his customers, that's why Nintendo Directs exist.

They have it on their IR supplementary report page and Aonuma has stated that it is and has been in developement for a while so I doubt they would scrap it or move it to the next console.

Zelda U Is coming for sure and It Is going to blow all the haters minds

Even the GameCube got 2 Zeldas, yes it will come to Wii U.

No need to worry, Bayonetta 2 is still coming.

Nintendo and PC gamer

To be honest the Wind Waker engine looks really nice on the Wii U ... if they took that engine and made a Zelda game that was less "kiddie" and had an adult Link instead ... I think it would be a pretty cost effective way to make a new Zelda game.

Ryuzaki agrees with you. You must be proud.

I kinda get where your coming from, not sure Nintendo has the guts though. A zelda released on the Wii U may be perceived as a waste of resources or wasted opportunity. By time of its release (late 2015?) the Wii U's fate would have already been decided. If we're all thinking that Nintendo are about to start readying for another console in 2016/17, why waste one of your most precious resources on a dead console?

I believe they did a similar thing with twilight princess. I assume it was delayed from its original 2005 release date, not because it wasnt finished but because Nintendo knew it would be a better used as a wii launch title as opposed to a swan song for the gamecube. (In which case the wii wouldn't have received an actual zelda game till 2009).

A Majora's Mask remake on the Wii U would be a decent way to make up it if they did make such a decision.
