Assuming every single PS4 owner bought PS+ that would mean subs were only at 2-2.5m or so before hand. Doesn't sound right.

someone a while back, did an analysis of sony's financials and some other statements made by sony and estimated ps+ subscriptions was around 3-4M.   i thought it was complete bullshit so i checked the math and you know what,.. it checked out.

ps+ subscriptions on ps3 was pretty low.  they had to be or sony would be making a lot more revenue than they report.

Seems like someting impossible to estimate, since Sony do not get all the money from a PS+ sub, devs have stated they get money from games put on PS+, I imagine each game is negotiated individually too.

it actually was a lot more straight forward than you'd think.

it was something like the analysis found the line item in one of sony's financial statements where software services was being reported.  he than made the assumptions that 100% of that revenue was from ps+ and that everyone payed $50 a year for ps+.   so it was like revenue generated / $50 per user ~= ps+ subscribers.

the analysis had some assumptions in it but it provided a pretty hard ceiling for what ps+ subscription rates could be and it wasn't all that high.

tried to find the article.  couldn't.

well wat do u expect when u put multi behind a paywall

Only times 3??? Must be a mistake or PS+ was not very popular at all on PS3.

Like I said then, impossible to work out because that method just does not work.  Sony do NOT get $50 from every PS+ sub, they release around 60 games a year on PS+ and devs gets something out of that.

the money paid to developers does not change sony's revenues.

$50 a year is the "buget" option for ps+.   if you want to factor in the 3monthly and monthly options the size of the userbase goes down..

the numbers worked out, i promise you.  you can believe that cause i'm a massive sony fanboy who would love nothing more than to make sony look like the awesomesauce.   unfortunetly the facts don't support a large ps+ userbase on ps3.

PS+ is an amazing service, but I hate that they had to force people to get it in order to play online.

Me and sales2099 came to a conclusion of 2.5m-2.9m

EDIT: probably sitting at 2.8m during 2013, then holiday increases that by 5.6, with 4.2m coming from ps4, and various holiday ps+ deals increasing it another 1.4m (likely temporary subs).

Real number I estimate around 6.5m, which is pretty damn good.

Nah, people are not signing up to PS+ to play multi, because not all multiplay is behind a pay wall. They're signing up the free gaemz, and discounts!

Thanks, I needed a laugh ;) Because PS Plus was really embraced on PS3.

Seriously......welcome to the great world of paywalls and the cash it brings to our corporporate leaders!

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

:/
Of course they did. Its practically required.

I wish Vita sales would of tripled from the launch of the PS4.
