Forums - Nintendo - Wii U shipments vs N64/GC

Before I go on I would like to say this isnt meant to be a Wii U doomed thread, just showing how Wii U is doing compared to Nintendo's 2 lowest selling home consoles in the same time frame.

Wii U shipments as of March 31, 2014 (Nintendo forcast)-6.25 million

Nintendo 64 shipments as of March 31, 1998-15.22 million

Nintendo 64 lifetime shipments-32.92 million

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Nintendo_64

Gamecube shipments as of March 31, 2003-9.55 million

Gamecube lifetime shipments-21.74 million

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Nintendo_GameCube

Nintendo 64 and Gamecube had each sold about 45% of there lifetime numbers by the end of the first full fiscal year. If Wii U has a similar lifespan and sales curve then it will end up with less than 15 million sold. Ill give it the benefit of the doubt since its more expensive and has a worse lineup in the same time frame but if things dont pick up, its a definite possibility that it ends up with under 15 million sold lifetime.

Like TomaTito said, it would have been nice if you had used graphs . Anyway, I  feel like WiiU sales will pick up and the WIIu will outsell the GC. You just need to remember that the GC had Metroid, Smash Bros and such  in 2003.

Wiiu is dead,it will be a miracle is it sells 15 million, third party's have already declared the console dead.

Like I said ill give Wii U the benefit of the doubt that since at this point in time N64/GC were each $149 while Wii U is $299 and those console had more of there big hitters already released.

N64-Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, GoldenEye 007, Star Fox 64, Wave Race 64, Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire, Yoshi's Story, Diddy Kong Racing, Pilotwings 64, Cruise'n USA, Turok 1+2, NFL Quarterback Club, WCW vs nWo, NBA Courtside. All exclusives that sold over 1 million.

GC-Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Mario Party 4, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II, Pikmin, Super Monkey Ball 1+2, Resident Evil+RE Zero, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Mega Collection, Star Fox Adventures. All exclusives that sold over 1 million.

Wii U-New Super Mario Bros U, Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land, New Super Luigi U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Wii Party U, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Lego City Undercover, ZombiU. Exclusives released by the end of the fiscal year with potential to sell over 1 million.

So with further price cuts and more strong selling exclusives, Wii U could start to gain some ground on N64/GC but as of now its on track to sell under 15 million.

That, sir, is the very essence of damning with faint praise.

Its up YoY for the last 2 weeks of data, which Isnt saying much, but a dead console doesnt show Improved sales from one year to the next.

It also still has Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda which have all sold over 5 million on numerous occasions so to say a console is dead before it gets the majority of its best sellers is premature. Thats like saying a Playstation or Xbox console is dead before they get Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, FIFA/Madden, Halo/Gran Turismo, Gears/Uncharted. It would be extremely premature.

I said the Wii U won't cross 20 mil. I predicted 18 million lifetime. Heck, it might not even beat that. No doom intended.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.
