The 3DS has decent 3rd party support in Japan, but the Vita, like the PSP before it sees better sales on 3rd party software ( i believe this is because Sony isnt as strong as Nintendo as a first party).

I would like to see some suport for this statement.

I generally agree with the exception of 3DS's biggest games which need the install base, Monster Hunter being the best example although even that would still perform strongly in my view as it would in itself drive the install base's expansion, which is why losing MH was such a blow to Vita's chances in Japan

There's not a ton since there are few 3DS/Vita games, but every 3DS/Vita game I know of has sold better on Vita (Conception II and Exerstra). Also, from reports from publishers saying that Vita games exceeded their expectations + all of the new game announcements (of which is heavily in Vita's favor).

Another reason for this perception is that the Vita version of PS3/Vita games sell very well and generally on par with the console version (see FFX HD, Dragon's Crown)

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

I honestly don't understand why Microsoft even bothers with Xbox in Japan at all...

Gotta please the ~500k Japanese gamers that are going to buy the XBox One in Japan during the entire lifespan I guess. The only reason the 360 even got to 1.7 million is because it recieved some exclusive JRPGs during the first years. If that doesn't happen with the One then I don't think it will even  reach 1 million..

I agree. Because of those extremely low numbers, I seriously doubt if the entire endeavour has been profitable in any way, or if it ever will be... I honestly think MS would be better off just not bothering in Japan.

This is the best I could find:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5976512

These are the best selling 3DS/Vita multiplats, games with low sales like Angry Birds Star Wars (3DS>Vita too) aren't there.

Here's the Vita and 3DS' top 10 games published worldwide by third parties (hence no MH 3 U or Layton):

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5976510

The 11-20 best selling 3DS third party games have outsold Vita's top 10 too.

So it's the opposite actually.

Bolded the part of the Nem's statement I think you're missing.  This is Media Create, after all.

Not that your conclusion wouldn't be the same, just that comparing a lot of worldwide releases isn't really answering the "3rd party sales are better in Japan" argument.  You just need to link Monster Hunter to show that, but you'll open a whole can of worms if you do.

Stop derailing. The post refered to Japan only, and of course Monster Hunter is the exception.

D'oh. Now that's a sign of lack of sleep. Going to bed right now. Today was a long day...

There's no need to point to big selling franchises like Monster Hunter that the Vita doesn't have, which would be an unfair comparison, games like Inazuma Eleven, this (I'm not going to write all that) or Taiko no Tatsujin outsell the best selling third party games on Vita.
