Forums - Nintendo - 3rd Parties to blame for lack of Wii U support?

If you've got Tomb Raider on PS3 and you see Tomb Raider Definitive Edition for $60 you might pass right.

Well 160 million people already have a PS3/360 and games, so when they see Wii U for $300 with a bunch of ports of the same games for $50, you'd think they would pass too. Well, welcome to reality. It sucks. You're gonna love it.

When I look at the sales figures of games like Assassin's Creed IV (1.22M sold on PS4, 0.6M on XOne, and 0.12M on WiiU), I suspect that WiiU owners either a) aren't interested in 3rd party games, or b) purchase their multi-platform games for other consoles.

Of course the lack of 3rd party support is the responsibility of 3rd parties. Anyone who thinks different is probably a child. Who other than the 3rd party in question should be held responsible for what games they decide to release and not release?

All this "the system is too this or the userbase is not enough that" is one thing only: An excuse. At the end of the day, you either make a game for a system or you don't. If you don't that's nobody's 'fault' but your own. Whatever reasoning you have has no bearing on who's responsibility it is.

I think, wow people in general have higher IQ's than at the start of last gen ^^

Yeah I think many many people who have played (X or Y) game on last gen will obviously have a % that will simply not go for X or Y title. Simply because there is no new story/game design/gameplay. They're mainly catering to people who consider replaying the game because it is so fun for them and they want a sequel so they'll double dip and they get PC level graphics, the people that passed on it last gen but want a good action based game and want to support games like it also, something along those lines I'm thinking. I have a PS3 and haven't played it, but heard it's a fun game. I'm actually turned off on buying it for 2X dollars on Amazon for the PS3 and now waiting for it to hit 2X dollars and for myself to get a PS4. lol.

I agree with the premise of OP. The U is failing because it's not supported: by Nintendo.

3rd parties are not necessary to the success of Nintendo consoles.

really? tell that to the N64, Cube and hell even Wii to a certain extent.

hahahaha, this. The WIi U is late to the party but too early at the same time. Way to late for the PS360 ports as millions of people have one or both those systems. Too weak for teh PS4/xone stuff. ITs kind of screwed in the 3rd party department.

Try again, where did you read that I was complaining about not getting these mediocre games, I have a PS3 & haven't bought these mediocre games on that platform either... I bought the PS3 for the only few good games that were released on it like GT5/6, Ni No Kuni, Journey, Soul Calibur(despite going stale since the 2nd), Rayman is great but I have the better version on the Wii U. Every generation is the same, Nintendo consoles have less games, but the top 20 games are better than the sea of mediocre games that are released on the other platforms, here & there appear half a dozen of truly great games on the other platforms that I happily enjoy but that's all..., there are more fantastic games on the SNES than on the PS2, PS3, PS4, XBox, XBox360, XBoxOne together, that speaks a lot (1), the PS1 had quite a few fantastic games too, but from there it's been going downhill, with only Nintendo maintaining high standarts and truly innovating (2). For "mature" "hardcore" games I have my PC, to play all the generic shooters (BF3 is great despite cheaters & the pseudo aces mistaking it for flight simulator, BF4 sucks, COD used to be good, Crysis as pretty as shallow & CS is CS) since playing shooting games with a gamepad on a console has failed "hardlycore" written all over... great racing sims are the other games played on my PC. I would gladly play them on my Wii U, but I'm realistic, for Nintendo to have the kind of raw power my PC has, it would mean a financial & managment suicide as they would have to sell a 1000$ console to match the graphics & physics of the games I play. That's not what I want from Nintendo, I want the great games they keep on making, so all is well, if 3rd Party want to make me buy their games, do as Nintendo(es) and make great games, not the uninspired shalowness I see. Life too short to play half baked games... & I don't like being a paying beta tester... so...

To end, what I'm complaining is the bull given to Nintendo by (in no particualr order):

Pseudo-gamers who were using diapers when I was already playing the original Tetris, always badmouthing Nintendo because it hurts in their manhood.(3)

Pseudo-journalists who are in reality paid brand integrists nerds, publicity poorly disguised if you want, firing on the one not giving a buck, paid by the ones giving a buck to do so.(4)

Game makers, that are also paid to make this or that game for that platform & try to justify it by spitting on the others because, I mean man, they are so godly & reality only exists because they want so all they say must be true & they r so cool & awsome (not looking @ u Kojima... no, not @ all).

Sorry I find Nintendo games the real mature ones, because they don't pretend to be other things than games & that you have to be trully adult about it when you are not a kid anymore, that is despite being grown up, enjoying games like a kid is not diminishing & it doesn't affect your manhood if it has shells & stars over laser guns, blood & boobs.(5) Using foul language can only go so far as a mean to affirm yourself out of childhood into adulthood. But for most gaming companies I understand it's better keeping gamers in Nerdteenland, where shallow propaganda maintains the everpaying sheep in the herd. Go eat you "New" IP of same old gameplay with shinier graphics while I play fresh, innovative, masterfull & unmatched gameplay in Mario, Zelda "rehashes"...(6)

1.-is a fact right? im curious, did you make the count?

2.-oh! the innovation card again, is quite ironic to think that most innovative games arent on nintendo consoles (at least last gen)

3.-So manly ;¬;

4.- Its a conspiracy!!!

5.-Only family friendly games can be considered as matures, there is no other way.

6.-Ok, you are jus trolling, you cant be real.

the funniest part to me is that he claims we are the ones getting offended but he's making an essay for every response. LOL

That being said-  Wy do you think they did not port it tot he Wii U?

I always hear talk of "greedy" developers-  then Nintendo fans insist these "greedy" developers would surly make money if they put their games on the Wii U-

But most decline to do so and most of the developers that have done so have lost their ass (in real dollar terms and/or opportunitty cost).  So..... if a "greedy" develper declines to port their game to the Wii U they must not beleive it is a good business move

our households only consoles are Nintendo-  I wish very much the Wii U had 3rd party support-  If it was not for Ubisoft so far the Wii U would have had close to nothing re 3rd party

DLC is definitely a feature, particularly for multiplayer focused games like CoD, where additional maps are released, with maps being central to the multiplayer experience. Why buy a game on the WiiU when it's not going to get ongoing support on other platforms? I believe online clans were also missing. Ghosts also suffers from Black Ops 2's smaller multiplayer user base.

If DLC wasn't a feature, why would Sony bother with exclusive DLC content?

only 30%  of buyers actually buy the DLC for any giving game, you know you have to pay EXTRA for that feature right? Any thing you pay extra for cant be called a feature. Online clans? people barely bought the game, hence no clans. YOu can blame small userbase on people NOT buying the game. YOu cant have MP user base if no one buys it and none of this even applies to AC4, i wonder what excuse you'll use when Watchdogs sells far below any other version.

Sony and MS both get exclusive or timed DLC that has nothing to do with anything. matter of fact it only makes my point stronger, if DLC was that important as you claim why do PS3 or 360 versions still sell comparitively despite one version may miss DLC? Only logical conclusion is it isnt important at all.

Interestingly, Assassin's creed 4 sold more on both the PS3 and PS4 compared to the Xbox360 (by 270k) and Xbone (by 620k, over double) respectively. Perhaps the exclusive content was a feature that drew more sales.

Wow! DLC costs money? Amazing. I never knew. I believe that the exclusive DLC for Assassin's Creed 4 was free though. For an online-multiplayer-centric game, the fact that some do buy a game for the promise of additional content over a version that doesn't have it, is a factor to take into account, regardless of whether you are personally interested in the content, as this can affect the number of online users. Plus, it's nice to have options, you never know what will be released. With all other things being equal, why chance missing out on something you may like?

Don't forget that the Wii U just came out of a software drought, with a handful of first party software being launched just prior to Mario 3D World releasing around the same time as both Ghosts and AC4. Th PS4 and XBone, on the other hand, didn't have as many first party titles to contend with (with Ghosts being the highest-selling game on each platform). While there is a great difference in sales to the Wii U version, I think in this case there are more variables at play than simply "Third party games don't sell on Wii U".

I actually think that Watch_Dogs should be one of the multiplat games to watch to see how third party on WiiU really sells, as long as it has parity on features, release date and price, and especially if the gamepad is properly utilised. As the gamepad lends itself so well to the core mechanic of Watch_Dogs, we could very well see the WiiU version as the definitive version of the game, despite it not being as graphically strong as the PS4/Xbone versions.

Another multiplat game to watch is Project CARS, which is being developed to actually properly use the WiiU hardware for its version. By the time Watch_Dogs and Project CARS are released, the PS4 and Xbone should each have more quality titles to compete with within their own platforms, making their situation more similar to the Wii U's.
