You say he spends money and therefore isn't saving money, quite right. It's like a Buy 3 get a 4th Free deal in a supermarket. People will buy 3 knowing they got the 4th free but really they only wanted 1 which was cheaper.
And he is saying, instead of buying 10 games this year, all at £15 second hand 6 months after they were in shops, he paid £35 once. 'Rented' or not, he played them. And that is what being a gamer is about, playing games.
Eitherway.... so? Both PS+ and Xbox Live are in reality as waste of money. Just like gaming.
Hmm, pie.

You're on the money.
People see something is cheap and usually jump on it, regardless if they wan't it or need it or not.
It's like with Steam sales, because games are so heavily discounted, people buy them up in droves, yet, if you didn't buy it, you would have saved more money as no money was spent.
Also an interesting fact is that people spend more time buying games on Steam than actually playing them.
One of the big issues I have with the game schemes Xbox Live and Playstation has is that you don't get to choose what games you wan't, if you don't like any of the games on offer, you are bang out of luck.
Plus, they're behind a paywall, thus they're not really free, just stupidly cheap.
Steam's free games are ligitimatly free, you're not renting them, buying them or spending a single cent or required to access them, I hope Sony and Microsoft see Valve as more of a competitor this generation, it would be good for everyone's wallets with any luck, free multiplayer and free games is hard to argue against.

I don't see how this is even a debate between Xbox live and PS+. I've had Xbox live for years and I'll tell you it's one of the biggest rip offs in gaming history.
PS+ is a breath or fresh air.

You would save money but no, it's a hobby and hobbies are there to waste money on. While Permalite's argument is that in order to save money, just don't spend it, he ignored the second sentence of my post. What you are doing is paying to play many more games than you'd normally be able to afford, not because you think "Man, that's a great deal, I'll save myself loads of moolah." (You do talk like that right?) But because the service offers what you need and what you enjoy, that is to play games and lots of them.
Buying those games one buy one just to find out they are rubbish would cost you a lot, the PS+ service allows you to get all that for a lot less and maybe potentially experience games you wouldn't have normally.

I ignored it for a purpose. :P
"Trialing" games used to be common place and you never used to pay for it, they were commonly known as Demo's and Shareware and other derivatives.
You paid nothing for that privilage, I found some golden gems back-in-the-day like Sacrifice via demo's.
Props to him if he finds value in the Paywall, I personally don't.

I agree with both posts as PS+ allows me to play games that normaly i would never have bought and some of them were really golden gems
Being behind a paywall doesnt really concerns me...I pay once every June and I know I get to keep the games as long as I pay. That last part isn't so bad as I rarely (more like never) replay a game. They are so many that I dont even have time to play them all. Finally, yes I do find value from this service. Sony allows you to put games in your account and dont download them (like i do for vita games and PS4 games) and even if those games leave from PS+ you can download anytime in the future for "free". That is something :)
