Forums - General - House owners on VGC - what did you pay for your home? *PART 2*

2nd try:

Ladies,

I know this might not be the right place to discuss that topic, but I just give it a shot.
Things got a lot more serious for me in the past year. I signed a new working contract in December, will be a father in the next 2-3 weeks and I bought a building site for my future house.

The "building-a-house-part" is still a few years away, because I am only 28 years old, but I kept an eye on some houses / offerings in my area just to get an idea what I have to expect.

I know that the US$ is quite cheap compared to the €uro, so I just checked American houses for fun and damn, those are cheap! Sure they are not as well made as the European ones, but still. A 2000m² building site and a 180m² house with an swimming pool in Florida for 190k €uros still seems like a good deal to me.

What did you pay for your house and what do you got for it?

I paid about 60k € / $81k for the building site and I expect to pay at least another 200k € / $271k for the house itself. When I check what kind of houses I could buy for that money in the US... pretty sick.

I am from Germany in case you did not know.

There won't be a lot of house owners here, I know that. Give me your (realistic) thoughts what you pay for a real estate in your area anyway.

THANK YOU!

Uh, what the hell good would it do you? Prices of real estate depend on a whole slew of factors. Ask locally.

I know local prices, I want to know how much other people around the world pay for their houses to see if I am getting ripped off.

This is sort of an odd question considering that within a given nation or region the prices for homes vary greatly for similar accommodations.

You won't be able to tell if you're getting ripped off as it is only comparable to your local area.

For instance my same home in an expensive state like CA (I'm not in CA) is 2x~3x the cost I paid.

But to answer the title question, I paid $250k for a 2000ftsq - 4bed - 2.5ba - on a large corner lot in a subdivision.

I got mine for 97k for 30 years 5.9 interest 1044sq foot. 698 a month.

I refinance my house a month ago 82, 500 15 years 3.5 interest 714 a month not bad it went up 16 dollars but I took 11 years :o.

That's your thinking error right there. You'll never know if you're getting ripped off or not based on that info.

And besides, you will be building a brand new house to suit your needs and style in a location you like. Do you really want to move to say Greece?

I know this, but I want to check out prices around the world.

And the funny thing is, I actually looked at Greece to know how much an appartment is there after all the financial trouble this country went through. Still more expensive than I thought it would be.

I paid around 100K US$ for 76m² it's worth around 150K right now (3y latter)...In São Paulo the average is about 5k the m² with some regions averaging 10k m² (and I'm excluding the really top top constructions)...

But every Brazilian is rich man, we pay the biggest tax, have the worst return and pay unreasonable prices for anything... a Corolla here costs above 30kUS$, PS4K 1800US$, etc...

Depends so much on location.  In Texas you could get a small mansion for $271k.  Around Silicon Valley you couldn't get a shoebox for that.  A decent house in a better area starts around $1mil.

My 8th gen collection

I develop land in the US. Like others have mentioned, the price of homes varies on your location. Even in Florida, you can pay as little as $200,000 for a small home. In a neighborhood only a mile away, that same house can sell for nearly $400,000.

I could give you dozens of reasons for it, but they would be based upon many different needs and interests based on most Americans needs or wants.

You can buy a piece of land or a lot(in US terms) for $25,000US in one part of a community and still pay $300,000 for the same size in the same community. Lots of variables.

Most people think they understand real estate or land values. In reality, they don't have a clue.

Your land purchase could have been a good investment, or maybe not. If you got it where you want and you are happy about what you paid for it, then it doesn't really matter. It will only matter if you wanted to sell it.

It is near the end of the end....
