Ladies, I know this might not be the right place to discuss that topic, but I just give it a shot. The "building-a-house-part" is still a few years away, because I am only 28 years old, but I kept an eye on some houses / offerings in my area just to get an idea what I have to expect. I know that the US$ is quite cheap compared to the €uro, so I just checked American houses for fun and damn, those are cheap! Sure they are not as well made as the European ones, but still. A 2000m² building site and a 180m² house with an swimming pool in Florida for 190k €uros still seems like a good deal to me. What did you pay for your house and what do you got for it? I paid about 60k € / $81k for the building site and I expect to pay at least another 200k € / $271k for the house itself. When I check what kind of houses I could buy for that money in the US... pretty sick. I am from Germany in case you did not know. There won't be a lot of house owners here, I know that. Give me your (realistic) thoughts what you pay for a real estate in your area anyway.

Depends so much on location. In Texas you could get a small mansion for $271k. Around Silicon Valley you couldn't get a shoebox for that. A decent house in a better area starts around $1mil.
