Can a new Wii U SKU help sell more units?

There are several ways Nintendo can improve the value and branding of the current WiiU.

-They can just start calling it Wii2.
-They can patch it to enable DVD and Blue-Ray playback.
-They can only make the 32 gig model to make inventory control easier to track.
-Instead of physical media the pack in game can be a card with code to download the game with regard to bundling. The boxes can all be the same with section for a sticker related to bundled game to save cash.
-They can work on their cloud services to make sure you can redownload purchased media, etc.
-Toss a little cash at Wii development in terms of network services. They are still selling them and when old ones get plugged back in, people start looking and thinking about the next model WiiU/Wii2 again. Enable DVD playback. Improve the browser a bit. Add updated/better versions of some of the channels the shut down and add a MiiVerse type channel. Right now Nintendo is fighting against PS3 and PS4, Xbox360 and One and they have taken their own 100 million selling soldier out of the fight.
-They can maintain price points by bundling either games or a second controller. They don't need to go below $250 in my opinion. There are plenty of PS3/XB360's selling at that price point even as dated as they happen to be.
-Highlight total system costs by highlighting free online play.
-Find a means to allow 3DS's to be used as controllers with the screens basically not doing any sort of streaming but minimal graphical data to again save on controller costs and improve value on Nintendo ecosystem.

None of these things would cost big money but could dramatically improve value proposition and mindshare. They are all software related and when all their products can access the same services and stores, it improves the value proposition of everything.

No. A new SKU won't help. The only thing that will help the Wii U is steady flow of quality software. A price cut means nothing without the games to back it up. The suggestions for the removal of the gamepad are sheer lunacy.

ProjectC is proof of nothing, everyhing youv seen is PC builds.  They have not shows the game runnnig on consoles yet.  You have hopes and dreams of them showing some imaginery WiiU power based of seeing screens made on i7 PCs, its hilarious.  SMS is a small indi dev kissing every fanbases ass hoping they buy their game, its just good pr.

Some of these screens are of PCs costing 2k, you need to get some reality based expectations.

Wiiu 720p 30fps
PS4 1080p 60fps

With the majority of Wii U games running at 60 fps I see no reason why Project Cars won't be able to run at 60 fps as well.

IMHO if they could re-launch the Wii U without a tablet and a larger HDD 160GB-320GB with SM3DW and a Pro Controller for 199.99 I would buy it. They'll never do that.

The problems as I see them is that they have a tablet, and all their eggs went into that basket. You add in the mockishly doubting of 3rd party's to Ninty's cap? Well they all just turned their backs on Nintendo for GREENER/BLUER PASTURES so to speak. Nintendo thought the 3rd party's were bluffing them the whole time, nope. When Nintendo heard some 3rd partys tell them they didn't like it, they could have listened couldn't THEY have? Did they? Nope. Now Nintendo knows, and YOU the CONSUMER KNOW that the system will never be inticing to casuals or 3rd party's. This is a tablet the casuals don't desire at all, and NEVER will I.

This is the problem, they can't hop in a Delorean with MJF and pull this shit off.  They can't get 3rd party's back with the WIi U. And NO system ever in the history of gaming will pull it off, not even the great NINTENDO. It's over.

Their realistic option? Drag the system on, however pathetically. Keep releasing whatever is in the pipeline, and set up a division that will build their next gen console that the hardcores want, because if they just want casuals that era is over and was swallowed whole by other companies. To get the hardcores they will need NEXT GEN truley NEXT GEN NINTENDO games and NEXT GEN 3rd Party titles, With XB1 and PS4 already paving the road I see them to late to that game and to late to the current game any way you slice it. Nintendo has cornered themselves in. I don't think they can even get out alive now. It's like they have terminal stage 4 cancer.

They have to partner with Sony or go 3rd party. They won't, and they will ride out the Wii U and try to keep hold of the portable market the best they can until they're pushed out there as well. I say 5 years of straight losses is definetly their path. Then they change, but what do they change to? It doesn't matter they will simply sell out, and retire or die rich old game makers/marketers/pr men regardless. It was a fun ride Nintendo, but you blew it with the Wii U completely. There's no going back now. GG.

Nintendo is fundamentally unwilling to compete directly with Microsoft and Sony. Gunpei Yokoi's design philosophies loom large in their imaginations, such that when they *try* to make red ocean consoles, they end up with GameCube and Wii U, which do poorly. In theory they could make a perfectly competitive console in the graphics arms race, but in practice the culture is designed for "lateral thinking with withered technology."

The key is for them to disregard the industry altogether and focus on being Nintendo. They did that and got the NES and the Wii

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

For $199.99 you can get this.

The all new, Wii U Starter Set. With a nice, white finish, 8GB of flash memory, and the Wii U Pro Controller, for just $199.99. Made just for BeElite.

link plz

OT: ninty may want to concider bundling a Mario game with Wiiu. But a new sku isnt a bad idea.

Why the hell did this turn into a graphics discussion?

Anyhow, getting rid of the Gamepad is almost a 100% no. Nintendo wouldn't do that, they've based a lot of the Wii U around the Gamepad. What Nintendo needs is a price cut with a Mario Kart bundle, especially for the holidays.

The price cut probably won't happen, though.

Nope, only the cartoony first party games run at 60fps. Pikmin 3 (the only realistic Ninty game) does 30fps too. 99.99% of third pary games (realistic btw) 30fps. Develoers arent lazy, its all the system can do.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

They need a few new SKU's and delete some old ones. Like Nintendo Land kiss it goodbye and replace it with a Mario Kart and Steering Wheel. Just sell Nintendo Land as a 30 dollar or less game. Maybe make a limited edition Hyrule Warriors Bundle or X Bundle. As far as the gamepad goes forget it. A lot of people would be ticked because the Gamepad is supposed to be what makes it unique and if anything if you go to Nintendo sites they want it to be used more in games. Does this mean that the pad has to come with the console, maybe not all of them, but then I don't see many people willing to pay an additional 100 + bucks for it either. (And why don't you all just get a Wii U from Wal Mart or something and get your pro controller for a adiditonal 20 bucks. if that is the only thing that ticks you off and is preventing you from getting one., it also comes with Mario games (of course) and a choice of one additional game.

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)
