Forums - Gaming - Do You Prefer Action RPG's or Turn Based RPG's?

With pretty much my only exceptions being Earthbound, and Pokemon X, I prefer action RPG's.

Reasons listed below:

-Less grinding

-Easier to understand and master

-No random encounters

-Combat is more satisfying and less tedious

-Your level doesn't hinder you as much as it would in a turn based RPG (ex. You're a level 4, but you have the best weapon in the game, so you still have a good chance of winning)

This is just my opinion. List yours below!

Turn based.

I feel I'm always in control and for most, I don't have to rely on an AI.

I like to vary between them, sticking to one gameplay style can get tiring.
I enjoy both but am more inclined towards turn based.

I just don't like random encounters. I'm open to try any battle system really.

Turn based

- More grinding

- More obscure things that you could possibly go the whole game without knowing

- Random encounters

- Outcome determined by my hard work outside that battle, not reflexes. Much more relaxing to play

Oh and I can (normally) control my whole team. Anyway, I do actually like action RPGs, it's just turn based ones are so rare these days I miss them. I'm particularly looking forward to FFXHD

Really does depend on the game. FF turn based is easy to get to grips with and do well in. Kingdom Hearts action RPG is easy to play, and rewarding when you achieve your goal.

I cannot however get into tactical RPGs like XCOM or Valkyrie Chronicles. Just not my thing.

Hmm, pie.

well, I've had very little exposure to turn based RPG's, in fact the only once I've tried are demos from en 3DS eShop. And so far I'm not a big fan, so I'll go with action RPG - and my favorites being Skyrim and Xenoblade (which I guess is almost kind of turn based, but not really)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Turn base, I like strategy.

Old style FF gameplay is really missed by me. Last one we had really was FFX-2. (a) I was confortable going through an FF game knowing I wouldn't have to grind as it was mostly balanced, (b) I found special ways over time to make my characters even better when at first I was just making sure they survive, the random encounters gave the terrifying fear that maybe just maybe a Malboro will appear and you'd have to peg it and (d) at the start of the battle your characters were clean slate and you had to pimp them out, especially if it was a boss fight. In FFXII and FFXIII most of these things were missing.

Hmm, pie.

Turn based. But I really love Tales' battle systems.

For some reason, not Star Oceans' though (at least not in TTEoT).
