Not a complete consensus. That would be impossible. But generally (Just look at the top 300 games thread here) it is a consensus. Also to you comment about nostalgia goggles I'd like to know what game you believe surpasses oot in overrall accomplishments.

What accomplishments?? Umm a minority of hipsters on game forums is not a consensus generally or otherwise.

I'm not sure if it's still general consensus yet. I mean, it's certainly there on the top 5 ever for most people, but top 1 has ceased being a consensus a long time ago. Each person you ask will give you a different answer, and sometimes the same person may give a different answer when you ask him next time.

Metacritic-wise though? WIll never be topped, it's just not possible. And sadly so, because I'm among the people who don't understand all the praise for OoT. A good game, and that's it.

OoT I've played twice and still forgotten. To the point that I played Twilight Princess thinking I had forgot it when in fact what I remembered WAS Twilight Princess and not OoT.

Xenogears will haunt me for the rest of my life.

OoT is very good, but its not the best game ever made. Its honestly just another Zelda, this coming from a huge Zelda fan and exclusively adventure/JRPG gamer.

Tell me this. Have you ever even Played OOT? Seriously that is the only thing that would explain your ignorance. I'm not saying that OOT is definetly the greatest game ever made that is an opinion. But you can't seriously not see all of it's accomplishments.

Metacritic from a game in 1998??? ROFL. metacritic means squat. Too many amazing games over the years, and quite frankly, Zelda in general si a great but overrated franchise.

When the nostalgia isnt a factor. Its quite the same as the whole "FF7 is the best game ever!" thing, only OoT has more fans due to it being a Nintendo exclusive title.

It isnt even the best N64 Zelda.

OoT is no longer the greatest game though it will remain on top of the list for many

Zelda SS and Galaxy 1 and 2 are better games and most likely 3Dwold though I still need to complete that one

There are many games that dethroned it, even in the year it came out: MGS1

Agree, MGS1 was ground breaking, truly nothing else was ever done like it at that time.
