Dethrone? It wasn't even the the best Zelda to begin with.. nevermind best game ever. Ocarina of time was a groundbreaking at the time, but quite frankly, it doesn't hold up nearly as well as the older games. Just like Mario 64 released, people raved on about it. But in reality, the game was never in the league as the NES/SNES titles.

Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World and LttP are much better games than Ocarina of Time.

Those are your personal opinions, the general consensus among gamers is that OOT is the best game of all time.  The question is whether this general consensus will ever change, I personally doubt it but anything is possible.

People still regard Final Fantasy VII to be the best JRPG ever. So I wouldn't take that consensus (metacritic?) too seriously. But nostalgia.. its one hell of a drug.

We have to base things off something, currently metacritic has GTA 4 as the best game but metacritic is extremely biased as it gives certain review sites a higher weight versus others.  Gamerankings just takes all of the reviews and averages them, and gamerankings has mario galaxy as highest rated game ever(even higher than OOT)

Metacritic is a useless, broken metric, and there is no such thing as the GOAT, too many different tastes, genres, and types of games in different time epriods, it's a stupid discussion quite frankly.

We have to draw the line somewhere, if all those other games don't count for various reasons why does OOT?

It's the best game of all time to some people, based on opinions. IMO, Majora's Mask is better, and I don't consider that to be the best game ever.

OOT doesn't count, none of those games count.  Those sites just average a bunch of glorified opinions, it's pretty much worthless.  But on most sites that do top 100 or whatever best games of all time, OOT is almost always number 1.  That is what this thread is all about, will we start seeing another game take that number 1 spot as consistently as OOT?  

So other opinions are not glorified? I don't see how user reviews are any different. In the link in the OP most of the games listed are there because of nostegla or how impressive it was for the time which personally I always thought is a really poor way to judge how good something is now but that's just me. Another thing is the word "best", and best is an extremely poor word to use in this situation because it doesn't make much sense, favourite on the other hand, I can't argue with someone's favourite game, but when you say your game is the best you better expect that to be challenged.

Will another game take OOT's "spot"? Perhaps, I don't know but I don't know either why it's important, it's not going to change peoples opinions.

Won't happen. That game was incredible by its own right and also revolutionary. We've reached a point in the industry where I don't think we can innovate on such a large scale, thus removing the chance that something is going to blow our socks off to such a degree. People are still innovating, but in smaller bits; nothing will ever give us the same feeling we got when we set off on the first truly awesome and epic 3D adventure in gaming history. People can make near-perfect games, but nothing will ever beat a near-perfect game that blazed trails. The nostalgia effect will always be present.
