I think the game deserves it! It's definitely one of the best games ever made and will probaby never be matched.

But I think it's kinda subjective. Metacritic wise it will never be matched but people have different opinion on what game is the best. It's undeniable it's one of the best but the very best game is for each individual to decide.

Ehh... Ocarina of time is not the best game of all time, FF VII neither. It's between Xenogears, Half-life 2 or Chrono Cross :P

Who is too say OOT is the greatest game of all time? Reviews and standards have changed a  lot since then. What is the criteria? I woudl argue it's not close to the goat, you will never get an anser to this question as games are subjective, what you like someone else will not.

Gaming is too fragmented and derivative today to produce any likely candidates for this throne for the foreseeable future.

I'll never, ever understand the consensus that Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever made. That being said, this bizarre worship will likely never change because of nostalgia.

It was, at the time, a revolutionary game, so many people call it the best simply because of that (personally, I don't think that should have any influence on whether a game is good or not, especially not 15 years after the fact) and it was also the first Zelda game for a lot of people, so a lot of Zelda fans have nostalgia for it.

The only way it will stop being "the best" is when more new people, who probably won't care about either of these things, get into gaming and the "OOT=Best Game Ever" people become the minority.
