Forums - Gaming - Seriously Why Doesn't Microsoft Just Buy Sony?

You can't buy something that's not for sale.

Microsoft had seriously consider purchasing Nintendo just before the original Xbox launched and and was offering up to $25 billion.

Yamauchi: Not for sale.

If MS was willing to offer Sony $25 billion they would own Playstation.

But MS wouldn't do that for obvious reasons.

If MS loses enough market share with the XOne, I could foresee MS buying the PS game division and patching in PS4 game support to the XOne. Would Sony be that desperate for cash though? How likely would it be if Sony slipped in to bankruptcy even amidst a PS4 renaissance?

It's more likely actually divests from Xbox in a joint venture with Comcast and/or an electronics company. MS's game division has never produced a profit for the company (if you take Skype + android royalties out of the picture)

Sony has only ever been in a dominant position in the gaming industry since they joined it except or the seventh generation where they came in second. They are in no position to be giving anything up to anyone. They just need to drop the Vita and the bleeding for the game division can stop.

Why doesn't Google or Apple buy Microsoft? They know its the titanic on the verge of hitting the iceberg

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

Says who exactly? The vice-president of the videogame department of Microsoft or just a random user of vgchartz's forums, an aclaimed spot for Sony 's haters?

If you have any connections to Microsoft then I dearly apologize. Still apples and oranges

These threads have existed before, and as i have pointed out, any company that is interested in taking over sony, has to get in line behind samsung who has been eyeing sony for a while. They purchased my shares several years ago, not sure if they are still actively buying but samsung is definitely in front position.

Samsung wont buy sony either..............for many reasons already posted.

I don't think a purchase of that size would be allowed anyway. I remember Tmobile was being bought out by someone but it got denied by the government because it would've reduced the amount of competition in the marketplace.

you'd be buying us fans too,do you really want that?

Didnt a recent candidate for Microsoft CEO position had a plan that involved Microsoft getting rid of the whole Xbox branch?

A lot of shareholders don't like the Xbox. Steve Balmer and the higher ups didn't care.

Is it cus isnt as profitable as many think?

They believe Microsoft is so focused on alternative OS competition since everything is becoming a multimedia device that they must destroy all competition. Thats the reason they made a tablet, its the reason they bought Nokia and its also the reason they are at Sony's throats. They couldn't give two craps about Nintendo. The Xbox makes a shit ton of money but its nothing compared to what Microsoft is used to making. As slight as it is Apple has cut into Microsofts dominant figures in the PC/OS market. The shareholders believe Microsoft is spreading itself too thin and everything outside of the PC is a distraction. Microsoft is a monopolistic company and anyone who succeeds and had an OS with multimedia processing power is the enemy. They tried to work with Sony and Sony denied them before the original Xbox came out. They took it as a sign of war when Sony denied them.
